My Gardens 2016

Back GateI haven’t been posting a whole lot lately because I just don’t have time. When it’s nice outside then I am trying to play in the dirt. When it’s not nice then I’m usually doing housework or trying to work on various projects around the house. I wanted to show you some of the progress and changes that I’ve made to the gardens in my yard.

This picture was taken on the first day that we owned this house. If you look by the deck steps you can see that there used to be a flower garden and to the right you can kind of see the shrubs that were planted by the house.

Driveway Garden Before 5-24-15These are the shrubs. There are four in this little area, plus two big lilies. I didn’t like these shrubs at all because they were hard to clean around due to the fact that they have pine-like needles and they poke you if you get near them. Also, there are too many in that little spot. They were growing on top of each other and really not allowing themselves to properly grow. I was trying to plant my vegetables and had a hard time figuring out where to put my tomatoes. We are going to get the basement entrance fixed this summer so I couldn’t plant them where I had in the previous two years as they would be in the way. After talking over various spots and plans I finally decided where I wanted them to go…

Driveway Garden After 5-24-15Doesn’t that look so much better?? It didn’t take too much of an effort to tear the shrubs out. I replanted the littlest one next to my fence and then the other three I put on the corner with a ‘FREE’ sign. I just noticed the other day that one of the people on the next block over had taken them and planted them in their yard. They are a little worse-for-wear, but I think that if the people take care of them that they will come back. Anyway, I really love that we have these shrubs gone now. Except, it showed us that we have something else to fix. You can see that horrible piece of lattice on the house that is covering up where the deck used to extend. It’s the only reason that I could come up with as to why the J-channel would be placed like that. Before Fall Jay and I will have to rip this apart and fix it properly. I think that this might be where some of the critters are getting into our house (Bob brought one up to us Sunday night…)

Back Door Garden Before 5-24-15The other side of the deck steps was a mess, too. There is a Rose of Sharon bush on the left and a lot of mint growing in that area. It was hard to get the lawn mower in there and it just looked bad. I decided to clean this area up a little…

Back Door Garden After 5-24-15I cut a line across from the steps to the Rose of Sharon bush and pulled out the stuff growing in there. I then planted some white and red begonias and some little sunflowers that only grow to about 18″ tall. Then I hung my wind chimes there, too.

Back Entrance 5-24-15What do you think? Next year when I can put my tomatoes back where they belong I’m thinking that I might plant a few rose bushes in this garden area.

Rose Garden 6-27-14Speaking of roses, this was my corner rose garden last year. It was the first year that I really worked on it to get some color in there and I planted two regular rose bushes and one climbing rose. I had also thinned out the irises along the back edges.

Rose Garden 5-24-15Here it is this year, though not quite in bloom (I can’t recall if I took any pictures of it so far this year). I have planted another rose bush so I have three regular rose bushes and two climbing rose bushes that I’m trying very hard to train onto the fence. Last year I had white petunias in there and this year I planted pansies and violas.

Side Rosebush 6-27-14I have one other climbing rose bush in my yard. This one lives next to the fence in my back yard. The first summer we lived here this bush didn’t do anything except grow. There wasn’t a single bloom to be seen. Last spring I told it that I would give it one more year, but if it didn’t do something then I was going to pull it out. I refuse to have a rose bush around here not pulling its weight! So last year you can see a few blooms that it managed to grow. It bloomed once and that was it. It was a bit of a disappointment, but at least it saved its spot in the garden.

Side Rosebush 6-17-15Here it is this year. Isn’t it beautiful?! I have decided to just let the canes grow out and hang down, so you can somewhat see how it’s growing out behind the hostas on the sides.

Side Rosebush 6-17-15 2And this is what it looks like from the road. It really is very pretty. I’ve already dead-headed it once and I think that I saw some more buds. Okay. It has definitely made sure that it will stay in my garden.

Paved Fire Pit Area 7-26-14One other area that I’ve worked on a little more is the fire pit area. We used it a few times last year after I completed the area and it really worked out nicely. I wasn’t quite happy with it, though. It still needed some tweaking.

Fire Pit Area 5-24-15This summer I expanded the back edge of the stone pad and kind of finished it off by the bushes. We now have a pile of wood (thank you father!) and I’ve added some lilies and the extra shrub (which wasn’t planted when I took this picture).

As I stand and survey our yard from the deck I have to admit that I am beginning to like what I see. Next weekend we are getting another tree cut down (as long as the weather cooperates), so I’ll be sure to show you how that looks now, too. Oh, and I’ll try to take some pictures of my rose garden in bloom.

CNC Router – Military Style

CNC Router 2I realized that I hadn’t updated you on any of the CNC Router projects that Jay has worked on lately. Believe me, the machine has NOT been idle.

While helping a local kid fix his quadcopter the kid saw the other fun toys that Jay has in the basement and asked if Jay would be willing to help him out with an Eagle Scout project. It seems he was going to make planter boxes for the local Soldiers & Sailors home, and he thought that it would be great to have Jay make the military logos to represent all five branches of the military. Jay always enjoys a new project and he liked the idea that veterans might be able to enjoy his work, too.

Routing the Coast Guard - CNC RouterThis also enabled Jay to use some new software that he had purchased for the router. This software helps to translate pictures into dimensional works on the router. The software translates the shades of color into depth on whatever you’re routing in order to give you the dimensional effect.

CNC Router - ArmySince these were going to be on outside planters the kid purchased pressure-treated lumber for Jay. He had cut them to the sizes that he needed for the planters and delivered them to our house Memorial Day weekend.

Jay and I were a bit skeptical when we saw what they wanted us to use. After all, it was just pressure-treated lumber and we weren’t sure that it would really rout very well.

What a happy surprise when we saw just how good they turned out!

CNC Router - Air ForceAgain, depending on the shades of color used the router either routed more or less. The Air Force logo has some dimensional effect so you can see how that translated on the router.

CNC Router - Coast GuardThe following comment is not intended to make a statement regarding my opinion of the actual branches of the military or those who serve in them…

Since there wasn’t a whole lot involved in the Air Force and Army logos they weren’t really that interesting for me to watch on the machine. The Coast Guard, Marines and Navy had more detail since Jay used the actual seals for these branches. The Coast Guard’s rope border looks like it’s sunk into the wood…

CNC Router - Marine Corps… and the rope around the edge of the Marine’s seal looked like it was carved out of the wood.

We were amazed at how well all of the detail really came out despite the fact that this wasn’t a special high-caliber wood. We were really impressed with both the software and the machine.

CNC Router - NavyAs a salute to Jay, I’ve saved ‘the best for last’ (as he would want me to say it)… The Navy.

These really have to be seen in person to really experience just how detailed they turned out. You can’t really see the ship very well behind the eagle in this picture, but it’s much easier to see when you’re actually looking at it. Jay has decided that he likes it so well he’s going to cut a few more for his own personal use.

The kid seemed happy with how they turned out and I believe that the planter boxes were presented a few weeks ago. Unfortunately we were out-of-town for my sister’s wedding so we weren’t able to go. Jay and I plan on taking a drive down to the Soldiers & Sailors home at some point this summer to see how they look and I will definitely take pictures. Even though it’s something silly I hope that the veterans who look on these enjoy them enough to take pride in their service for our country.

Thank you to ALL of the veterans, current military member and military families who sacrifice so much to protect and serve our country!

Mr. and Mrs. Somebody

Last weekend I was in my sister’s wedding and I wanted to share with you some of the pictures that Jay took while I was busy participating. Please note that the following story is completely made up. I just felt goofy and thought that I would add some captions to the pictures. Enjoy!

Mr. and Mrs. Somebody

First Dance

June 13, 2015

Droof's Red Crown

Before the bride was allowed to get married she had to go through the time-honored ritual of putting a red octopus on her head and drinking a purse full of pearls.

Droof's Balloon Veil

Once the red octopus had been put out of its misery the bride then put on the celebratory crown of accomplishment while the groom wraps a bag of the octopus’ ink around his neck as a good luck charm.

Decorated Table

As the time approaches for the ceremony to begin all of the glasses on the tables are turned upside down. They will then release mice to run through the candy maze. The first mouse to reach the candle in the middle and lights it is deemed to be the winner. It will then be trapped beneath the glass in order to be admired for its great achievement.

Matron of Honor

The matron of honor watches the races. Will her mouse win? Hopefully nobody will realize that her mouse was given Red Bull right before his race.

The Officiant

This time it was the groom’s sister who won. This gave her the best seat in the house, but it also meant that she would have to officiate the ceremony.

Delivering Raven's Bouquet

Since she had lost, the matron of honor had to carry around two bouquets as her punishment. The South does NOT mess around when it comes to the pre-wedding mouse race!

Kerry-Amanda-Tim-Reed-Raven-CMom-Adam

The bridal party stands around waiting. And waiting. And waiting some more.

“So, did you guys catch that mouse race? It sure was something, wasn’t it?

“Yep”

“Yep”

Mother of the Groom

Adam, the best man, walked Chuk’s mom to her seat.

“Don’t tell anybody, Mrs. Chuk’s Mom, but I’m incognito today. Nobody will recognize me in my sunglasses.”

“What?”

“Exactly.”

Mother of the Bride

Reed, another groomsman, tries to make a pass at the Mother of the Bride.

“I would be careful about what you say, buddy. My body guard is right behind us and he’s keeping an eye on you!” she warns him.

Reed giggles nervously…

Tim-Raven Walking

Suddenly Canon in D begins to play and things get serious.

Groomsman, Tim, escorts the groom’s daughter, Raven, down the aisle.

Reed and Amanda

Amanda wonders how she got stuck with Reed. It just doesn’t seem fair. Even with her heels he’s still way taller than her.

Reed’s thinking, “Woo-hoo! I won the bridesmaid jackpot!”

Best Man and Matron of Honor

“Despite the fact that I’m standing up for my best friend,” Adam is thinking, “I will refuse to act like I’m actually happy to be part of this.”

“Look! I’m wearing flats and I’m still way taller than him!” Kerry says.

Oh wait… perhaps that’s why the best man is upset…

Hanging Out

The bridal party chatted among themselves as they waited for the bride to make her appearance.

You Sure

“Are you sure that you want to do this? The car is right over there,” the father of the bride asks.

“I think so. After all, I’m already dressed up and I think that it’s too late to get our deposits back.”

Chuk You Can look

The groom was completely confused and wasn’t sure that he was allowed to look yet.

“Can I look? I don’t want to break the rules. Tell me when I can look…”

Bridesmaids Stink

It was apparent to the guests that the bridesmaids had forgotten to bathe that afternoon.

Lighting the Tapes

The mothers of the bride and groom took care of it, though, and lit a match.

Hold This

The bride then gave the matron of honor her bouquet in the hopes that it would help with the smell. “Don’t come any closer,” she said. “Just take the bouquet and maybe rub it all over yourself.”

Lighting the Unity Candle

They also lit a scented candle.

Listening to the Vows

The mantel of shame settled upon the matron of honor while the other bridesmaids snickered because they hadn’t been taken to task despite the fact that they were part of the problem, too.

I Farted

As they began to exchange their vows, though, the bride admitted to her groom, “It’s not the bridesmaids who stink. It’s me, but I’m blaming them! Hehehe.”

Exchanging Vows

The groom’s sister giggles at this, but kept the ceremony going.

Exchanging Rings

“The rings are somewhere… oh, here they are!” The rings and vows were exchanged.

Kiss the Bride

The bride was so impressed with the kiss that her veil got a rise out of it!

Mr and Mrs Somebody

“May I now present to you Mr. and Mrs. Somebody!”

Look What I Caught

Mr. Somebody is very pleased with himself. Mrs. Somebody is letting Mr. Somebody relish the moment… for now.

Why Are You Smiling

As they waited for pictures to be taken the groomsmen laughed as the bridesmaid took the matron of honor to task for her shameful behavior. “Next time at least put on deodorant!”

Oh Yeah

“I can’t believe that you went through with it!” her father exclaimed.

I Don't Want to Dance

“Give it 40 years!  You’ll see!”

Look Over There

“Are we done yet?”

Bistro Chairs Re-Covered

Bistro Chairs BeforeJay and I have a bistro set in our library. It’s nice to sit at when sipping your coffee in the morning, or when refilling your tank for your ecig.

Unfortunately, all of that sitting created a tear in the vinyl that covered Jay’s seat. He asked if I could fix it and I said yes. Now, I’ve never reupholstered or recovered anything in my life, but there’s a first time for everything.

Chair Seat - 1I started by removing the seat from the frame of the chair. This was easily accomplished by removing the four screws that held it in place.

So far… so good.

Chair Seat - 2This is what I was confronted with when I removed the lovely felt-paper cover.

It looked like they had found all of the scrap pieces of wood in the factory, glued them together and then cut a circle out of it.

I continued to remove more staples…

Chair Seat - 3… and I also changed where I was working. I had started out on my dining room table, but I was making quite a mess. The wood was flaking apart as I was removing the staples. So I decided that it would be better to make a mess on Jay’s workbench. After all, he wouldn’t notice. Also, his workbench is much closer to his tools!

Chair Seat - 4I was rather surprised to find the foam still in really good shape once I had removed the really pathetically cheap vinyl.

This reminded me of a giant sugar cookie… Mmmm…

Chair Seat - 5If you have a Hobby Lobby near you I highly recommend that you stalk the clearance area where they put their remnant fabric at reduced prices. Especially when you don’t really need a whole lot of material, like when you’re only covering two bistro chair seats.

I found this lovely brown vinyl at a really good price.

Chair Seat - 6After unrolling the new vinyl and  spreading it out, I laid the old piece of vinyl on top to act as a pattern of sorts. When I did this you could REALLY tell just how cheap the old vinyl had been. This new stuff should really be able to handle a lot of sitting!

Chair Seat - 7You can see the old towel that I had laid on the workbench. I didn’t want to place the new vinyl directly on the workbench in case I somehow managed to ding it up. Better safe than sorry.

I tried to place the seat in the middle and made sure that my new piece of vinyl would overlap all of the edges.

Chair Seat - 8Then came the most difficult part of the entire project… finding the staple gun and staples.

I kid you not… I must have spent fifteen MINUTES looking for staples! I found all kinds that didn’t fit the particular staple gun that I had found. I couldn’t find the other gun, either. I finally ran into some staples that worked, though.

Chair Seat - 9Once the staple gun was actually loaded and functioning (both need to happen at the same time… trust me), go to town stapling the snot out of the vinyl.

I also used a hammer to go back and make sure that all of the staples were down nice and flush with the wood. Hopefully I never have to remove them!

Chair Seat - 10Look! How pretty! It’s just like the top of a Hostess cupcake, without the white squiggle!

Actually, I really was surprised at just how well it came out considering this was the first time I had ever attempted to recover a seat.

Chair Seat - 11Don’t forget to put the cover back on so that it looks somewhat professional. Not that anybody should be flipping over your chairs to see what’s under them…

Chair Seat - 12Voila! A new chair!

It looks nice, doesn’t it?

Don’t forget to screw the seat back onto the frame! And make sure that you have the screw gun turning in the correct direction. Otherwise you will spend a few minutes cursing at it and wondering why the screws won’t bite.

Not that I would have any personal experience with that…. *whistles*

Bistro Chairs AfterThis would also be a cheap and easy way to add a new look to your room or even just update an old, tired set of furniture.

Give it a try! You never know what you might learn.

Dresses for Missions Update 6-2-15

Sewing Room Supervisor - ChesterIt appears that I haven’t updated you on my Dresses for Missions since the end of April. I don’t know where May went, but as you can tell from the picture both Chester and I are exhausted!

I am exhausted from playing in the dirt. I don’t know what Chester could have possibly done that would have exhausted her. Of course, just being a cat in this household is an exhausting job!

Dress #26 5-7-15Dress #26

I finished this dress the first week in May. I found this fabric in the clearance area at Hobby Lobby and I knew that I wanted to use it for a dress. When all was said and done I really wasn’t happy with this one. The ribbon that I used around the ruffle had an open-weave pattern that kept getting caught on my presser foot. Jay thinks that it looks elegant, but I was just soured by the issue I had with the ribbon.

Dress #26 DetailYou can’t really see the pattern on the ribbon in this picture, but it gives you a closer look at the fabric. Next time I might try using some bright green or blue ribbon to accent it.

Dress #27 5-14-15Dress #27

This one was made the second week of May. The fabric was another find at Hobby Lobby. It has almost a yellow-green paisley look going on. I should take better pictures of the lighter-colored dresses, I guess.

Dress #27 DetailThere, this shows it a little better. I used a light yellow lace at the hem and the neckline. I had this grayish-blue ribbon that I thought really set the whole thing off.

Dress #28 5-22-15Dress #28

This was the last dress that I made. I’ve been busy prepping gardens and weeding, so I haven’t made it back into my sewing room since before Memorial Day.

I’ve used this fabric on a dress before, but I believe that I used brown lace on that one. This time I had some cotton crocheted lace that I thought would really set it off.

Dress #28 DetailAt the top of the ruffle I used a green ribbon underneath the cream crocheted band. It gave it just a bit of color without being too in-your-face. Then I used some petite lace around the hem.

Sugar Control Diet – Weeks 17 & 18

3D Printed Cookie CuttersWeeks 17 & 18

Weight Change: Lost 4 pounds

Total Weight Loss: 20 POUNDS!!!!!!

Mood: Jubilant!

I’ve been wanting to do some baking, but these cookie cutters are the closest that I’ve managed to come to it. It has been VERY hot so turning on the oven is not at the top of my list right now. Actually, since it has been so nice I’ve been spending a lot of time working out in the yard. That might have contributed a bit to the weight that I managed to lose this week.

It was a very stressful two weeks, so it was a nice surprise to step on the scale this morning and see that it had moved down a bit. I had allowed myself to indulge a little bit this week, however I tried to make sure that it wasn’t TOO bad of an indulgence. Klondike sells No Sugar Added ice cream bars. Now, they do add the bad chemical sugars, but I figure that because they won’t taste as good as the full sugar ones then I won’t be tempted to eat them too often. This way I get something that feels like an indulgence without it being too bad. Right?

There have been a few moments when I actually realized that this diet is changing my thought processes. In a good way, I think. Maybe…

I picked up a box of Lemonheads last night at the store and considered buying them because I love Lemonheads. I flipped over the box to read the ingredients (to check for gluten) and was disgusted when the first two ingredients were sugar and high fructose corn syrup. As I put the box back in the bin I started wondering, “What happened to the jelly bean-eating, marshmallow-craving, Sweet Tea-obsessed Kerry???” Get this… I was even considering one of those new water bottles where you put fruit in the inside so that you can flavor your water naturally as you drink it. WHAT?!! I don’t fall for those kinds of things! Yikes!

This morning at church they made announcements regarding the annual festival, including the Chicken Run. It’s a 5K run/walk that they do the day before the festival and the winner gets a free chicken dinner at the festival the next day. I have no illusions that I would actually win, but I am actually thinking about signing up for it. When I took a walking class in college (it was a LOT harder than it sounds!) I was able to walk 3 miles in about 45 minutes. It’s been a while since I’ve power-walked, though, so I’ve asked Jay if we can go out walking on the nice days when he’s working 1st shift. I need to get my legs back into power-walking shape!

So that’s how my two weeks have been. 🙂

A Visit to the Garden Center!

Rose Garden 6-27-14It was Memorial Day weekend and one thought popped into my mind: It’s time to plant!

Where I grew up you didn’t dare to plant your gardens until Memorial Day weekend because there was still the chance of a killing frost. Thus it just became a habit with me that I planned to work in my garden Memorial Day weekend. Now that I live in an area where I can get away with planting a few weeks earlier I’m still having trouble getting over the habit that I developed long ago. This year, though, I just didn’t have time to get out there, or the weather didn’t cooperate. Finally, though, it was time!

The local garden center is about a 10 minute drive from my house and they open at 8 a.m. on Saturday. At a few minutes past 8:00 I kissed Jay goodbye and told him that I would be back shortly. I think that it was 9:30 when I got home. How could I possibly have spent that much time getting plants? Let me explain…

Garden Center OutsideI LOVE the garden center. I’m allergic to almost everything in there, but I LOVE it. I typically have a list in my head of what I want to get, but that doesn’t stop me from walking all over and looking at EVERYTHING.

PerrenialsI started by grabbing a wagon and taking a glance at the perennials. I might actually need to go back and get some once I decide what I want to do around the flag pole in our front yard. However, that was not on my list for the day, so I continued on my way.

RosesFirst stop… the roses.

My mother-in-law bought me a rose bush from this garden center last year, plus I returned and bought one for myself. They weathered our harsh winter beautifully! I probably spent no less than 15 minutes walking around looking at every single rose and trying to decide where I could put more roses in my yard.

Yellow RoseWho wouldn’t be happy seeing this in their garden??

Or a bunch of these in their garden?

ShrubberiesAs I continued on toward the vegetable plants (my main reason for being there), I couldn’t help but notice this area.

At least if I ever run into the Knights Who Say Ni I will know exactly where to go to get a shrubbery!

VeggiesI finally made it inside where they keep the vegetables. I think that they have every single vegetable you can possibly imagine. And some that you haven’t!

I was boring and just picked up some cherry tomatoes, beef steak tomatoes, burpless cucumbers, zucchini and green peppers.

Very boring.

PansiesNext was the hard part: Deciding what flowers to plant in my non-rose gardens.

Of course, I stopped in the area where they keep the pansies.

More ViolasThey had these violas which just shouted at me. They needed a good home in my garden. I said okay.

Purple PansiesAnd who could say no to such an adorable little pansy face? Certainly not me! These little guys came along to keep the violas company.

GeraniumsWhat I love most about the garden center is that no matter where you look there is COLOR every where! I don’t like geraniums, but you have to admit that they are beautiful in this picture.

I ended up getting some petunias (another favorite of mine), some begonias and sunflowers.

Garden Center InsideI wasn’t done looking, though.

As you head out of the greenhouses you enter the main building where they sell the various gardening accessories like…

Terra Cotta pots

Bird BathsBird Baths

Garden FountaintsGarden Fountains

Garden DecorGeneral garden décor

Concrete Statuesand Concrete Statues.

I spent a bit of time walking among these guys. It amazes me just what somebody has designed to put in gardens.

Concrete CatI saw this cat that reminded me of my sister’s cat, Joey.

Who wouldn’t love a Joey in their garden??

Concrete MaryNow that I’m Catholic I suppose that I must get the mandatory Mary for my garden. I think that it’s in the Catholic by-laws that you have to have a statue of Mary in your yard somewhere, and you get added points if it’s set within a buried bath tub.

Concrete ClydesdalesPerhaps you’re a big Budweiser fan…

Whoa Nelly!

Concrete KittenAwww!!! Shhhh! Don’t wake the cuteness!

Concrete BigFootLook! I found Big Foot!!!

My HaulAfter all of that looking, this was what I ended up taking home. Not as bad as you probably thought.

I can’t wait to go back!!

Summer Cross Update 5-22-15

Summer Cross 5-9-15It seems like with everything else going on that I wouldn’t find time to stitch. However, that just does not seem to be true. If I don’t get my 20-30 minutes in the morning to sit and stitch then I’m grumpy at work. That’s not good for anybody!

So, as of 5-9-15 I had finished the grapes and was working on the daisy to the right. I learned a lesson on this daisy, too. Do not cross stitch after getting glutened. You will end up having to frog your project (rip it.. rip it… rip it…)

Summer Cross 5-22-15Despite the miscounting, though, I managed to finish the daisy and then I started on the rose and the peony (at least, I think that’s what it is). They both have similar colors in them so I figured that I might as well do them both at the same time.

I enjoy stitching this one because it has such happy summer colors in it. 🙂

Yellow A-4 Skyhawk Project – #6

A4 BellyIt’s been a while since I last posted an update on this project. That is mainly due to the fact that it got put aside once the 3D printer and CNC router made their appearance. Poor little A-4!

A-4 Back FloatAs you can see, though, not much has changed. It’s still flat on its back.

Although, it did get a layer of primer sprayed on it.

A-4 Rear ServiceJay was trying to recall what he had decided to do for the rudder servo. It took a little bit of looking and prodding, but he finally remembered and got it all hooked up.

A-4 Rudder ServoIsn’t that such a pretty little rudder servo?!

A-4 Painted WhiteOnce that was done he could then flip it back onto its belly to continue the work to the guts. He had to build fan mounts and install the fan.

A-4 GutsHere we have the dual intake where it joins at the fan.

I can’t recall what surface will move once a servo is hooked up to that pull rod/cable-thing. (It’s been a while since I took these pictures).

A-4 Carbon fiber FanI can say with certainty, though, that this has a gorgeous carbon fiber fan unit!

Oooo…. pretty!

A-4 Fan ExhaustThis airframe was originally built for a much larger Dymax fan. It was somewhere along the lines of 120 billion millimeters.

Hmmm… that might be wrong…  😉

Either way, it now has a 90mm fan.

Don’t worry, it’s not the size of the fan that counts… it’s how you use it!

A-4 I Can't SeeThen it was time for paint. The A-4 was a bit scared, so we covered its eyes so that it wouldn’t have to see what was about to be done.

Oh, and the paint scheme that was chosen for this is something that Jay doesn’t think anybody will get because it had something to do with a different two-seater model had this scheme, but his A-4 is actually only a one-seater and he wondered how many people would notice. I’ll be honest… I didn’t.

A-4 Paint Scheme Going OnAfter a few more layers the orange began to darken up so that you’re not sure if it’s just a bright red or a bright orange.

A-4 Painted FlapsAnd of course, you have to paint the flaps red!

This is the last picture I have of the work on this jet, so far. I know that Jay has worked on the landing gear, but this project has been temporarily set aside again. He is helping a younger kid in our club build a Sig Senorita, so he’s been going full-bore on that project.

Well, at least you have a bit of an update. As things start to progress again I will post more updates.

Sugar Control Diet – Week #15 & 16

My Dress for Droof's WeddingWeeks #15 & 16

Weight Change – +2 lbs   😦

Total Weight Loss – 16 lbs

I guess that overall having lost 16 pounds is not such a bad thing. It’s just that I was hoping to go the other way so that I could say that I’ve lost 20 pounds so far. *sigh* Life has been busy and I’ve been eating more starches than I should, so I have to throttle back on that a bit.

With that being said, I wanted to explain why I chose this picture for this post. My sister is getting married next month and I’ve been putting off getting a dress. To be fair, I thought that I had one that would work, but I couldn’t really make it work in my mind. I couldn’t find anything to gussie it up or enhance it. Plus, based on what I experienced yesterday, I would swim in it so it would require a bit of adjusting.

Yesterday a friend from church went with me to find a dress. I hate clothes shopping because I never want to spend the kind of money that they ask for clothes, but I also hate to try things on. When you are a 5’10” tall full-figured woman it can be hard to find anything that not only fits you, but looks good on you. I didn’t know if I would be able to find a dress or not, but I had to try. My friend and I picked out about 10 dresses for me to try on, in a range of sizes, and I found out a few things. First off, I’m not nearly as fat as I think I am. Secondly, some of these dress designers really need to realize that they can’t use the same design for stick-thin women and full-figured women! Horizontal stripes do NOT look good on a woman who is trying to minimize her wideness.

In the end I went with the dress that you see here in the picture. This is not a very flattering picture because I had Jay take it when he was sitting on the couch, so it’s at an angle. Also, I’m in it so therefore it’s not a very flattering shot. This dress is not at all something that I would have normally picked out. It’s figure-hugging and shows off my every curve, even the bad ones! However, it’s lacey with sequins, it’s long (it hides my legs) and it’s comfy. It’s also two sizes smaller than I had anticipated having to buy! I would have preferred one size larger, but they didn’t have it so I went with this. I have to be VERY good over the next month and I need to get a little more active. If I can take off even just five more pounds in that time I will be feeling really good about it. The most important thing, though, is that Jay says that I look beautiful in it.

Last week I tried on a pair of capris that I had purchased last summer, but couldn’t wear because they were too tight. I couldn’t hardly get them buttoned. I needed something casual to wear, so I grabbed those and hoped that I had lost enough weight to make them at least fit. They did, with some room to spare! As the weather is getting warmer and I am digging out my summer clothes it’s so nice to try on something that I remember being a bit snug last year to have it fit nicely now. Changing the way that I eat and how I consume sugar has definitely been worth it!
