The Basement… Ugh

In all of the pictures I’ve posted about my house I have refrained from posting any of my basement. Why? Because I hate it. Just the thought of going down there increases my level of stress and frustration. A lot of it has to do with the fact that the foundation has a leak in it and until things dry up, we can’t fix it.

If I had known how bad it leaked then I would have insisted that we fix it this past summer. Now I am stuck dealing with the constant puddle of water in the basement. We haven’t had the typical snowy, frozen winter so I’ve had a LOT of water down there. The bad thing is that where there is water and moisture, there is mold. *sigh* Not good for a person with environmental allergies. Anyway, the cats don’t seem to mind it. In fact, I think that they consider it to be their own play cave.

Bob didn’t expect me to take his picture. Can you tell?

I’ll show you from where he had just come… are you ready for this? Are you sure? Maybe you should go get something strong to drink. I know that I’m going to.

Ugh… the shuddering is starting. Are you sure you want to go down there? Maybe we could do this some other time. No? *sigh* FINE!

Lovely, isn’t it? Do you like my puddle of water? It’s not very large today. Yes, the stuff is moved away from the wall because of the puddle. This is what I see when I get down at the bottom of the stairs. Then I turn the corner.

Okay, to be fair I told my uncle that he could leave the weight-lifting stuff there until he found a place where he could have it set up. Of course, part of the deal is that I can use it in the meantime. Yeah… once I get the place cleaned up so that I can actually have ROOM to use it!

A lot of this stuff was my grandma’s. Apparently my relatives felt that I might want some or all of it. Yep. Because I can use it. GRRR.

All of those black plastic bags on the shelf are appliances. There’s a food processor (I already own one), a deep fryer (can’t use it because it’s contaminated) and a George Foreman grill. That’s not counting all of the other miscellaneous things on that shelf. Oh, and to the right you will see the manual treadmill that it was thought that I might want. Yeah… thanks.

Over in the corner is the work bench. And to the right is a shelf full of Christmas stuff. That was left for me as well. Oh goody.

This is where I promised Jay that he could eventually set up his trains. That is, after my aunt fetches her pile of stuff on the right. Supposedly that will be out of there this spring. Then I have all of these chairs and boxes of miscellaneous stuff to go through. The boxes on the table are kitchen items that I have boxed up for the refugees. I have to get those over to Jay’s mom at some point. Have you had enough? Or do you want the full tour?

Here’s the middle of the basement. There are those chairs I was talking about, plus my furnace in the background. Oh, and the white metal cabinet that used to be in the bathroom. No idea what I’m going to do with that, but it has to be in the middle so that it doesn’t get wet. See the white garbage can to the left of the cabinet? I opened that up to discover that it was full of plastic tea bottles. The City picks up recyclables every Monday morning. I have no idea why these never made it to the curb.

Now can you see why I’m a bit frustrated? I would be happy if I could just get it to stop leaking! I want to be able to use my basement. I’m so tired of battling the mold. Anyway, I hope that you enjoyed your tour. I know that eventually it will look a lot nicer. Maybe.
And here is the last picture that I have to share. To the left is my aunt’s pile of crap. I am standing right where I had envisioned that Jay’s trains would go. You cas see the stairs in the background. And yet another metal cabinet that I had to pull away from the wall.

New F-16’s!

Even though we really haven’t had much of a winter, the guys in the RC group are already looking forward to spring. Flying in the gym is okay, but everybody is itching to get back outside. The last time Jay and I went to the gym for Friday Night Flying he had two guys come up to him and ask for a foamie F-16. Jay has put together quite a few of these and he flies the snot out of them. When guys see how easy he makes it look then they want one, too. Do you want to see how hot Jay can make an F-16 look?

Yowzers! I’m drooling just looking at all of that hotness! Oh, and the jet doesn’t look bad, either. 😉

A good deal was found on some foamie F-16’s and they arrived at the house this week. Would you like to see them?

This is what the front of the box looks like:

I have already asked if I can help with the assembly process and have been granted permission. It’s kind of exciting for me because when I help out with one of Jay’s planes then it makes me feel like I’m actually doing something. It’s also kind of bittersweet. When Jay and I started dating he was putting together one of these foamie F-16’s because he was going to take it to eJets out in Columbus, OH. I watched as he painted it and I even got to see it fly a few times. It was a beautiful jet! I was also there, however, when it finally met its end…

RIP Foamie F-16. I will never forget you. :*-(

Being Martha Washington…

I have started to read the book “Being George Washington.” This is Glenn Beck’s most recent book. It’s not about politics or the stuff that he usually discusses on his radio show or GBTV. Instead, with the help of some well respected historians, he has put together this story that tries to show us the true man behind the imposing legend that we know of as one of our founding fathers. Often times we forget that the person is more than just the marble statue who stands tall in front of a municipal building, or that he’s more than just a portrait on our one dollar bills. George Washington was an actual living, breathing, and imperfect man who strove to do the right thing and be the best that he could be at all times.

I haven’t finished this book, and in fact am barely halfway through it, but I’ve come across a section that has really made me stop and ponder a few things. Would you be kind enough to allow me to ponder these things out loud?

In the book Benedict Arnold has just shown his traitorous side and dealt a blow to George Washington that left the general’s head spinning. He couldn’t fathom how such a great man as Benedict Arnold could do such a horrible thing. Arnold was one of the best, if not THE best, generals in the entire Continental Army; he had used up much of his own money to help fight the battles; and was known for his great boldness and bravery in battle. Yet, one of the other commanding generals took all of the credit for the win at Saratoga without mentioning Arnold’s involvement. There were numerous junior officers who were promoted above him after this battle as well. Benedict Arnold felt like all of his hard work, his loyalty, and his courage had been for nothing. Why wasn’t he being honored and praised for his sacrifice and defeats dealt to the British? he had been slighted and that really pissed him off. What did he do? Did he attempt to get his praises sung? Did he patiently wait for somebody to recognize his deeds? Did he decide that even though he wasn’t getting the credit for the win, that it was still a win in the war and was helping his cause to be furthered along? Nope. Today we all know that to become a traitor is to be a ‘Benedict Arnold’. Why? He decided to sell West Point to the British and allow them to take over one of the strategic areas in the colonies. It would have been a death knell if things had gone as Arnold had planned. Instead, providence came through (the ‘Invisible Hand’ as Washington referred to it) and the plot was discovered before it was too late.

Glenn Beck thinks that a lot of this had to do with the women behind these two men. Both of them were great soldiers and leaders. Both of them loved their country and fought hard for its freedom. Yet, only one of them ever turned against the cause or played the game of ‘victim’. Yes, each man made his own decisions, but as Glenn points out, one of those decisions was also who to take as their spouse. Let’s take a look at the two women involved.

Peggy Shippen was eighteen when she married Benedict Arnold. She was considered to be one of the most beautiful women in Philadelphia and quite the catch. In today’s standards she would also be thought of as being ‘high maintenance’. Peggy was quite demanding and was used to a high style life. Her father was quite wealthy, but was also thought to hold Loyalist feelings. They socialized with the British and had many Loyalist friends. Benedict Arnold met Peggy Shippen at the time in his life when his feelings had been hurt by being passed over for both glory and promotion with the Continental Army. Who’s to say that Peggy didn’t use her persuasive powers to cajole her husband into siding with the British? After all, it would be worth some money to the Crown and they could use that money to live high on the hog, as she was used to living.

Martha Custis Washington is a completely different story. Here we have a woman who was almost Peggy’s opposite in every way. Maybe it was because Martha was older when she married George. Perhaps the span of years helps to mature you and so you know what is more important in your 40’s than what you would in your teens. Martha had no desire to elevate herself socially or be involved in the latest gossip. Instead, she occupied herself by loving her husband and supporting him and his endeavors completely. While Mrs. Arnold was off dancing at balls and flirting with every man in the room, Mrs. Washington was visiting her husband’s camp with wagon loads of supplies that she had purchased and gathered, then tending to the wounded and suffering soldiers. Not only did she herself gather things for the soldiers, but she also organized other women together to do what they could for the cause as well.

Glenn asks the question on page 107 of his book, “It may be a cliche to say that behind every great man is a great woman, but I’d like to see someone disprove the theory. And while it may be a pointless exercise, imagine for a moment if the roles had been reversed. What if George Washington had married Peggy Shippen and Benedict Arnold had married Martha Custis? Do you think both men would’ve turned out the same way?”

I turned this over in my head tonight. The conclusion that I came to was that if we had to go on a purely hypothetical situation and imagine for a second that Washington would actually choose somebody like Miss Shippen for a wife, that he would still have been the same George Washington. Now, I do believe that Benedict Arnold would have been different. He would not have turned traitor because he would have had Martha behind him, believing in him. Sometimes that’s all we need. It’s like the saying goes, “To the world you may just be one person, but to one person you may be the world.” To have the most important person behind you, believing in you and urging you to be the best that you can be is all we need. Instead, Arnold had a scheming woman pushing him to do what SHE wanted.

Of course, you can be the most steadfast, loyal and supporting wife, but still not have any kind of bearing on the person that your husband turns out to be. I’ve known many good women who have tried their hardest, but their husbands just were unable to follow through with the moral character that they needed to be a good person. There’s only so much supporting and self-sacrificing that you can do when your husband refuses to live by the vows that he took in front of God and decides that he’s above that and it’s perfectly okay for him to carry on with other women. I think that Benedict Arnold lacked a bit of moral character, and that’s why he turned traitor. I can’t imagine George Washington doing the same thing if he was in the position that Arnold had been in. Washington would have never turned into a traitor. It just wasn’t in him.

So if you are a person of moral character does it matter what kind of spouse you have? Ideally we would all love to have a supportive spouse behind us, but would that make you act any differently? Turn that around, too. Are you being the supportive person that your spouse/partner needs? Are you doing your best to encourage and enable them?

Is it wrong that I hope to be like Martha Washington? I would like to think that I’m a good influence on others and that I do what is best at all times. Does it mean that I’m going to become a volunteer for Hospice? Probably not. I would get too emotionally involved and I don’t know if my heart could take it. Does it mean that I will do my best to encourage and support my husband in his endeavors? Yes, of course. I would like to think that I could be a positive influence and bring out the best in him, just as he would bring out the best in me. I know that a lot of women would call me old-fashioned, but would it really be so bad if more women tried to be more like Martha Washington and more men tried to be like George Washington?

A New Marketing Strategy?

If you’ve paid any attention to news lately (and I’m not talking about politics because you don’t want me going on a rant about that one!), you will have heard that JCPenney has launched a new marketing strategy that will begin on February 1st. No longer will they have a million different sales each week. Instead they are going to take a giant light sabre and will slash all prices by 40%. After that they will have special month long prices on certain items, and every first and third Friday of the month they will reduce some prices even further to move their Clearance items. Along with slashing prices they will also implement a new pricing strategy. You won’t be able to find a price tag marked $9.99. Instead it will be either $10 or $9. If an item is marked down and will be part of the clearance sale, the old tag will be removed and a new one put on the item. They will no longer place price stickers with the new marked-down price on the original tag.

Besides the prices of items, they are also going to redesign the store. No longer will you have many different brands from which to choose. Instead they will only have a select number of name brands and the brands will be all grouped together. You will find The Original Arizona Jean Company in one area and Liz Claiborne in another area. On top of this there will be a ‘Town Square’ place in the center where they can showcase various brands and give the consumers a more hands-on experience. All of this was modeled after Apple’s retail store designs where they have pods of products and then the ‘Genius bar’ area. Now, having never been in an Apple store I can only take their word on it from the articles that I have read.

You see, the new CEO of JCPenney, Ron Johnson, used to be an executive at Apple and was the one who designed their retail stores. I have nothing against Penney’s, or Apple, even though I used to technically be a Penney employee when I was in high school. Even though I’m an accountant I did have to take some marketing classes in college and I have a slight problem with the new marketing strategy that Mr. Johnson has unveiled. My criticism is based on my business background, plus the fact that I am a consumer as well. I don’t claim to be an expert on anything in particular, but I just wanted to share some doubts that I have with this new strategy. Perhaps I should be concentrating my efforts somewhere else and in pursuit of more relevant projects, but this is all really bothering me so I just have to get it out.

First off, what makes Apple so successful is the product itself. You don’t need gimmicks or special promotions because the product sells itself. Think of how many times you’ve heard about people lining up outside of the stores for days before the latest version of the iPhone is released. Or about the iPads were almost instantly out of stock after they were released for sale. Did Apple have a huge promotion going on for these products? If they did, I didn’t hear any of them. All it took was Apple saying that they were going to release their new product on a certain day and BAM… they were sold out. I realize that Mr. Johnson used to also be an executive at Target, but he has to realize that retail doesn’t work the same when you are trying to convince the consumer to buy the clothes at your store and not at Kohl’s. You do need gimmicks and special promotions to convince the average consumer to spend money in your store and not your competitor’s.

Which brings me to the slashing of all prices by 40%. Now, considering that I’m a cost accountant and my company sells our product to other manufacturers I’m very aware that we have a certain gross margin built into the cost of our product. There are many of our items that we sell at a much higher price above the actual cost to make the product. Why? Because we are a business that takes into consideration that somebody in purchasing had to take time to find the most cost effective component, then somebody in marketing had to spend time figuring out how to showcase our product’s abilities to best fit the needs of our customer, not to mention all of the time that goes into research and testing of all new products. These R&D costs are built into the margin that we get back as profit on the final selling cost. So, when a company says that they are going to slash 40% off of the cost of their product my brain instantly screams, “If they can afford to do that and still make a profit, then just how badly were they scamming us before??”

Again, I realize that all retailers do this. Which is a part of the reason why I try very hard to not buy anything at full cost. Unless it’s a necessity (your basic cotton undergarments and the like), I don’t buy clothes, shoes or books at full price. If I don’t feel like I’m getting a good deal then I don’t buy it. As a consumer I like seeing the mark-down stickers on the original price tag. That shows me what the product originally cost and what the new price is now. It’s all a mind game, I know. Without that visual, though, I will be more likely to leave it sitting on the rack than buy it. I’m a horrible judge of what clothes actually cost. You will NEVER see me paying $30 for a blouse. If I see a blouse with the original tag of $30 and it now has a marked-down tag of $20, it’s still sitting on the shelf. A week later I walk in and it has been marked down to $10 then I might take a second look at it and decide if I want to purchase it. However, if I walked in and saw the same blouse with a tag that says $10 and I know that it’s marked down, but I don’t know what the original price was because they are using their new policy of putting new tags on the clothes, then I’m more than likely going to let it sit there. It’s all a mind set with me. How do I know that the original price wasn’t $12 and they are just making it seem like this is a great deal at $10? I’m not saying that I would purchase it if I knew that it had originally been $30, but at least I would know that it truly was marked down and they weren’t just playing games with me. Maybe it’s an accoutant thing, I don’t know.

The new strategy of not having any big sales will probably back-fire on them, too. Consumers want to think that they are getting a spectacular price on a product. Take a look at Black Friday, for instance. How many people line up because there are HUGE sales and they know that they don’t need another TV, but they can’t pass up the great deal on the 40″ plasma at Wal-Mart? This is why every company has a marketing department. They know all of the gimmicks and ways to trick consumers into thinking that they need to buy this particular product. They know the way in which something is worded will have a big effect on whether or not consumers will buy the product. How many of you have been suckered into buying more of something that you don’t need just because it says 10 for $10! If it said $1 per item would you be as likely to buy ten of them? Probably not.

I could go on and on, but I’m sure you’re tired of reading my drivel. I probably will not shop at Penney’s very much anymore (not that I really shopped there a lot before). Knowing that this Johnson guy is trying to foist some trendy liberal-type of preppy retailing on me completely turns me off. I like Apple products, but not because of their stores. I hate shopping at Target, at which he used to be an executive. I can’t tell you exactly why I don’t like Target. It’s just a creepy feeling that I get when I walk in there. It’s very preppy and trendy and  brand names matter in that store. I’m not a brand name type of person. I feel way more comfortable in the aisles of Wal-Mart, with the other grits and white trash, than I ever do at Target. Also, it might just be my perception, but Target tends to be pricier than Wal-Mart. Just an observation on a few things that I’ve noticed there. Finally, Penney’s is already talking about showcasing Martha Stewart and I hate her. I boycott her all of the time. If I needed something and the only way that I could get it was by purchasing it with her name on it… I would go without. After the insider trading thing that went on, and yes I know that she did do her time for that, I don’t trust her and I won’t spend any of my hard earned money on her products. I refuse.

Thanks for letting me go on about nothing. Enjoy the rest of your day!

Psycho Girlfriends

Last night while driving home from Jay’s I was listening to a radio program where a lot of young college girls were calling into the show. The male DJ was lapping it up and hitting on every caller. That’s his job. It keeps him employed. At least, that’s what I kept trying to tell myself. lol. This DJ had an intern show up at the station that night and he was a bit upset. It seems that the intern had discovered his new girlfriend parked in front of his house in her car, with one of her friends, and they had been staked out there for quite a while because they’d had a meal or two as evidenced by the food wrappers strewn about the car. The DJ asked women to call in who had stalked their boyfriends before, or who were on the way to stalk their boyfriends. Disturbingly, there were a LOT of women who called into the show!

I’ve NEVER stalked a boyfriend. I’ve also never stalked an ex-boyfriend. Maybe a lot of that has to do with the fact that I never lived near any of them, but that’s beside the point. lol. The whole concept of stalking your current boyfriend absolutely drives me insane. If you don’t trust him enough that you feel the need to stalk him, then why are you dating him? In every relationship there has to be an element of trust otherwise it just won’t work. Trust is one of the most important things to me in a relationship. When you live 50 minutes away from each other you have to know that in between the weekends, when you aren’t able to get together, that you aren’t out cheating on each other. If that person is so important to you that you spend your entire weekends with them, caring for them and doing your best to spoil them, you have to have a very high trust factor. Otherwise, what’s the point?

As TJ from the Ace & TJ Show likes to point out, even the good ones are crazy. I will admit that’s pretty spot on. We all of our own little bouts of crazy. Guys just have to know how much crazy they are willing to put up with. Maybe if the woman is good looking enough then a LOT of crazy is tolerable.

For instance, Katy Perry is a very pretty woman so she would be able to get away with a lot of crazy.

More so than a woman who is pretty in her own way, but not jaw-dropping pretty like Ms. Perry. Somebody like this:

A guy could look at those two pictures and decide that he would be much more willing to put up with Katy Perry Crazy than Kerry Crazy. After all, I’m showing off just how insane I am! I am wearing a dress patterned after an 1863 visiting dress and I’m happy about it! I have more cloth making up my bodice and sleeves than what Ms. Perry has making up the entire dress she’s wearing in that picture.

I guess that I’m just not into the whole ‘psycho girlfriend’ behavior. And I don’t understand the guys who put up with these women. If guys wouldn’t tolerate this behavior then women wouldn’t resort to it in order to get their way. Here’s an anthem to all of the psycho girlfriends and the guys who love them. This is “Psycho Girlfriend” by Jessie James off of her debut album, Wanted.

Locks of Love

I finally did it. I cut my hair. Last week I’d finally had enough. All day at work I kept getting it caught between my chair and my desk, so it was constantly tugging and pulling. If you’ve never had that happen to you, then please understand that it becomes annoying pretty quickly. I was going over to my parents’ that night anyway, so when I got there I asked my mom to cut it. I wanted to donate it to Locks of Love so that I would at least know that it was going to a good cause. However, in order to donate they like 10″ of length, minimum. When all was said and done I think that I ended up taking off close to 12″. A week and a half after getting it cut somebody in my office finally noticed it. Nice, eh?

Before:

After:

The ‘Before’ picture was taken this past summer. Yes, I needed a trim. I was a bit worried that after taking the weight off of the ends that my hair would frizz up because it has a lot of body and volume in it naturally. So far I’ve been lucky. It tends to get a lot curlier and you can kind of see that the waves have become larger and more pronounced. Still rather beautiful. Just not shockingly long. lol

The strange thing is that technically it’s still considered to be very long. To me, though, it feels like I’ve been scalped! I’m getting used to it, slowly. I do like the fact that when I get dressed I don’t have to remove it from the waistband of my skirts or pants. And it’s nice knowing that if I bend down to tie my shoes I don’t have to get my hair out of the way so that I don’t tie it up in the laces. lol

Liquid Lunch

Ever had one of those days? Of course you have! So far I’ve had one of those years. Most of it has to do with work. Anything wacky that could go wrong has gone wrong. If it wasn’t for the hair dye I would have a full head of gray hair!

The day started out kind of weird. I had a dream last night that I went with my sister and a family friend to some teaching seminar that my sister was attending. I just went along for the trip. Except, the trip was in a local town here so it really wasn’t that much of a trip. We stayed in this really luxurious hotel and our room was actually a suite. There was a main, connecting sitting room and off of it were two bedrooms. My sister had gone to her seminar so I was trying to decide what I wanted to do in my free time. Our friend was sitting there with me in our room when we heard the door open. We figured it was my sister, so we waited, but she never came in. I went out into the sitting room and found this dirt bag guy just leaving. He had come into the room, done who knows what, and left! I went in and told my friend what I’d seen and as I was telling the story I heard the door open again. It was a different dirt bag guy! He came in, went into the bathroom, was in there for a little bit and then left. WHAT??!! How did they have keys to our room? We called the front desk and the manager came up. As we were telling her what was going on yet another dirt bag guy entered the room and helped himself to the bathroom. None of them ever said a word to me. The manager told me there wasn’t much she could do about it. Excuse me??!! I told her that she could either switch us to a new room or else give us our money back and we would go elsewhere. In the middle of this I’ve taken all of our stuff and hidden it in one of the bedrooms so that I didn’t have to worry about it being stolen. Then my sister calls up and asks if I could drive to where she was because she had left her lights on and her battery was dead. She had jumper cables, she just needed another vehicle. I told her that I couldn’t because I was guarding our stuff. She was confused. lol. That’s about the time that I woke up. Weird, eh?

This morning at work was a real headache. Most of us were thinking that we could use a liquid lunch. It’s not going to solve our problems, but it will make us not care about them for a little bit. lol

One more random thought… I cut my hair last Wednesday and donated it to Locks of Love (I will post pictures later). It’s not drastically short, but it feels short to me. I must have cut about 12″ off of it, but apparently it still looks long because I didn’t have anybody in my department mention it until today. Yep. Over a week goes by with these people seeing me every day and they didn’t notice that I was missing 12″ of hair. The other day in the ladies’ room one of the ladies from the floor was in there. She stopped and said, “You cut your hair!” That was the first time that I’d seen her since doing it. Weird that she would notice, eh?

Snow Pet Peeves

Winter has finally decided to arrive. Unfortunately. I could have handled the cold without the snow, but when you live in this climate:

It’s not often that you don’t have snow. Okay, this picture was taken a few years ago at my parents’. No, we don’t have that much right now, which is actually unusual. This picture was taken at the end of November 2008. We didn’t have any snow for Christmas this year, either. The bad part about that, however, is that it means that the lake hasn’t iced over and therefore we’re still getting lake effect snow. Ick!

Tonight when I walked out of work there was about 3″ of snow on my car. I started up the car (I still have to call and make an appointment to get my remote starter installed!), and then set about cleaning it off. I’m very picky about how I clean the snow off of my car. I want very little left on the car, if at all possible. I try to make sure that I’m as visible as possible from all angles, and also I don’t like to shower the person behind me with a blizzard of snow. Why? Because that’s one of my pet peeves! People who have cars where they can easily reach the top with the snow brush, but they are too lazy to actually brush it off. Inevitably, I am the one stuck behind that person and I can’t see despite the fact that it’s not snowing out in front of their car. Just behind it. GRRR.

I’ve also seen vehicles where they don’t brush off their lights. Hello! How in the world is the beam of light supposed to penetrate the 3″ of snow that is covering them? Guess what? If your headlights aren’t showing through the snow then there’s a good chance that I won’t be able to see you. The same goes with your tail lamps. If you don’t brush the snow off then I can’t see your brake lights. It doesn’t take that much longer to do a quick swipe over your lights. A few seconds, maybe. It will do both you and me a lot of good if you could find the spare time to do this. It would mean that I won’t rear-end you, and you won’t have to listen to me curse you out. It’s a win-win for both of us!

More R/C Planes!

Yeah!!! I finally did it! I’m not going to jinx myself, but please enjoy MY pictures. 🙂

There has been a lot of progress on the Warthog, but not a whole lot of it is able to be captured on a picture. A lot of the wiring has been done and tested. Now the process of priming the plane has begun. Here are a couple of the flaps:

No, they aren’t different colors. There was a shadow being cast over these parts. Would you like to see what it is that is casting the shadow?

This is a jet that Jay has assembled for his friend Dave-the-Marine. This is a Panther… I think. There’s another one similar that is a Cougar. I remember the names because they are cats. I don’t remember which plane they belong to. lol. I just think of this as the Kitty jet. (Jay’s going to roll his eyes when he reads that!)

Finally, because Jay was a good boy this year he received a new jet for Christmas. Two weeks ago he came over to my place and spent the entire weekend assembling it. I know that he’s itching to give it a test fly. This one is a Concept. I do know that one! lol

Isn’t it pretty??! Speaking of pretty, feast your eyes upon this:

That’s right ladies! Look at that handsome hunk of a man. And he’s all mine, so keep your mitts to yourself. lol 🙂

Laundry

As I’m doing laundry tonight and attempting to put my unmentionables away, I can’t help but think about our grandparents and their laundry. Years and years ago people didn’t have many clothes unless they were well-to-do. If you’ve ever owned an old farmhouse you will know the frustration of small closets. You wonder how in the world they could have survived with so few clothes. Think about it. Personally, I have clothes for work; clothes for fancier events; old clothes for yard work and maintenance-type of projects; clothes for working out; clothes just for hanging around the house; and don’t forget about night clothes.

Years ago you could pack all that you own into one suitcase. ONE suitcase! I can’t even imagine. My mom tells me the story that when she first married my dad they didn’t have much more than a suitcase a piece.

Why do we suddenly need to own more clothes than our grandmothers did? Is it due to our need for materialistic stuff? Is it our excessive greed? Or perhaps it’s because the times, they are a-changing? For instance, when women didn’t have jobs they had their every day around the house clothes, perhaps a ‘visiting’ outfit, and then their Sunday dress. If nobody else is going to see you then a couple of dresses could get you through the entire week. Now that we’ve gained equal rights we go out into the world five days a week in our business attire. When we get home we have to change out of that and into our house pants. Also, we are changing our underwear every day (at least, I hope we are!). Can you imagine how fewer pairs of underwear you needed back before cars were invented? After all, we only change them because we don’t want the paramedics seeing that we’re wearing dirty underwear if we’re in a car accident, right? 😉

Is that why old ladies wear perfume? They don’t wash their clothes nearly as often because they don’t have as many clothes, so they think that they can disguise the smell of dirty clothes in this fashion? That’s just my own mind wandering so please don’t take any offense. Unlike my nose when it’s assaulted by old lady perfume. lol

Anyway, that’s just what I was thinking about tonight as I was doing my laundry. The phone company came out to take a look at my line today because I contacted them last night about my photo issue. The woman I was in contact with said that my signal strength was low. She told me that a service person would call me today, but guess what?? I work during the hours of 8-5 so they came when I wasn’t here and could only look at the line outside of the house. Apparently there was a broken wire that they fixed (I don’t know how they missed that when they installed the phone two weeks ago). They thought that should solve my problem. NOPE. I feel like calling them back, but it won’t do any good unless I can actually be at the house to let the service person inside. The cats aren’t allowed to answer the door, so I can’t have them do that. And with all of the crap I’m dealing with at work it’s not going to be easy for me to take a day off. STUPID WINDSTREAM!!

🙂

P.S.- Have I mentioned how much I HATE living in this City??
