Hot Stuff Estate est. 2012

2228 EastlawnI haven’t been posting to my blog a lot lately because I’ve been very busy. Between becoming Mrs. Hot Stuff and then getting ready to move it didn’t leave a lot of time for playing on the internet at night. Finally, though, we signed the closing papers on our house and we are all moved in! For the most part… lol

The house was built in 1950 and does not look very big on the outside. Once you get inside, though, it seems to just open up and keep going. There is some work that has to be done, but this house has such character that we fell in love with it. Also, it was within our price range. Oh, and it is also three doors down from my mother-in-law so I already know one of my neighbors! Would you like to take a tour of my house? I am going to post pictures of the rooms when they were empty, and now what they look like with stuff in them. Please keep in mind that we have only lived here for a little over a week so we are still trying to unpack and settle in.

Formal Living Room fireplaceYou enter from the front porch into the formal/front living room. This room has the fire place and a giant picture window with a million panes of glass that I had to wash off 4″ of dust. Eventually I would like to tear up the carpet because I’m quite sure that there’s a beautiful hardwood floor underneath.

Formal Living Room and TreeThis is how it looked tonight when I decided to get my camera out. The room shrunk quickly, didn’t it?! The Christmas tree is in front of the picture window. Once that comes down I am going to swing the couch over in front of the window, so it faces the piano, and then Jay’s mom is giving us a rocking chair that will go in the place where the couch currently sits.

Formal Living Room DoorThis is the other side of the front living room. You can see the tile in front of the door, and the doorway into the hall that is in between the two bedrooms that are on the first floor. Also, straight ahead through that doorway is the bathroom.

Formal Living Room CouchAnd this is what it looks like with stuff in it. Again, we are still unpacking and trying to make it feel like home. You can see that Chester is not having any problem with that, since she has found a comfy spot on the couch.

BathroomThis is our one, and only, bathroom. Many people would probably be horrified that we would consider living in a house with only one bathroom, but most of the time there’s only one person in the house. I work first shift and Jay work’s third, so there are few hours where we are both in the house at the same time. It works for us. At some later point we might put a half bath in the basement when we finish it off. The color scheme is not one that we will be keeping, either.

Master BedroomTurning left, we have the master bedroom. That is a hardwood floor, which is in some major need of refinishing, but it’s gorgeous. It looks like oak, which I love. The bedroom is huge so we were sure that it would continue to echo even with our furniture in it.

Master Bedroom SetupPlease excuse the pile of dirty clothes. We only have a full bed, so you can somewhat imagine how big the room really is. You can’t see the fact that I have a dresser and lingerie chest to the right of the doorway. I believe that the rug under the end of the bed is 4’x8’… I think. The gap between the rug and the wall on the far side of the bed is around 12″. As you can see, Bob approves. Oh, and how do you like the quilt that my mom made for Jay?

Pink RoomNext we enter the Pink Room, or the spare bedroom. The previous owners had a seven year old daughter who occupied this space. Neither Jay nor I are fond of pink and Tinkerbell, but we are leaving it like this until after April. Jay’s friend, Dave-the-Marine, is going to visit with us for a week and this is where we are going to have him stay when he’s with us. lol He’s going to love it!

Pink Bedroom SetupIt’s not like we’re making him sleep on the floor. He has a bed, with a heated mattress pad and flannel sheets. He should be quite comfy. The only thing about this whole house is the amount of hardware found in the walls and floor. This room has no less than 60 staples sticking out of the floor. At some point there was carpeting where you now see hardwood floors. When the carpeting was removed the staples and nails were left in place. Can you imagine?? After I took a huge chunk out of my toe last week on a staple Jay and went around and removed the ones that were in sight. There are still a ton more to remove, but at least I’m no longer hacking away pieces of myself on them.

Library Espresso TableMoving back through the formal living room, towards the rear of the house, we find ourselves in the library. This is officially known as the “Dark St Ends Library” in honor of my best friend, Pauline. This room was originally the dining room before the back part was added. We don’t need two dining rooms, but we do need a library.

Library CafeWe have placed Jay’s espresso table in here and it’s so nice and cozy! On weekend mornings we can sit here and have our cup of coffee, or we eat dinner by low lamp light. Jay put the two wall sconces on a dimmer switch so that we can pick what mood lighting we want. Again, please excuse the boxes. They are currently waiting for the bookshelves that Jay is building me as a Christmas gift.

Library bookshelvesThis is the wall on which my bookshelves will be going. I can’t wait! Jay is in the process of building my shelves right now. We did some measuring and there will only be an inch or so on either side once we are done. It’s going to be so awesome!!! Even Jay is excited. 🙂

Kitchen from LibraryLeaving the library we walk into the kitchen. It needs to be repainted and have the horrid wallpaper removed, but for now it’s heavenly. Look at all of my counter space! Amazingly the cupboards filled up quickly. We will have to redo the counters at some point, but for now they are useable.

KitchenI have a gas range, which I love (I don’t like to cook with electric) and it’s big enough for both Jay and I to move around in there at the same time. I have a dishwasher, but I don’t really care for how dishwashers clean. Maybe I’m not loading it correctly, I don’t know. Jay laughs at me because I use it as a giant drying rack. Why clutter up my counter with dishes that are drying? I just toss them on the racks and let them air dry.

Dining Room into KitchenThis is the current dining area. I haven’t taken an updated picture with our stuff in it because it’s a horrible mess! This is where we enter the house most of the time, so this is where everything gets dropped. It’s a nice sized room, though, and it will work for our purposes.

Family RoomFinally we come to the Family Room. This, along with the dining area, was the addition that was added onto the house a handful of years ago. It has a sunken floor and it feels huge in there. The wallpaper is coming off the left wall, so we’ll eventually have to take that down and repaint, but for now it works.

Family Room FullI didn’t take a picture of the entire room because we still have a lot of boxes in there, but you can get a good idea of how big it is. This is where we watch TV, play the Wii, or just hang out to read.

Sewing RoomNow it’s time to go upstairs. This is what you see when you get to the top of the stairs. These two rooms are technically bedrooms, but for now Jay and I are using them for our own selfish reasons. This first room is mine. It will be where I keep my sewing machines, cross stitch supplies, and other craft items.

Sewing Room FutonIt is also where we are keeping Jay’s old futon. lol At least you know that if you want to visit us we have plenty of room!

Jay's RoomThe second upstairs room is Jay’s. It’s his thinking room. It’s quiet and overlooks the street. It also has a really nice feel to it. I don’t mind sitting up there when he’s playing on his computer.

Jay's Room ComputerIt’s really quite cozy. Also, you can see the end of his mom’s driveway from this window, so you can get advanced notice if she’s coming over.

BasementThen we have the basement. It’s a full basement that Jay would like to eventually finish off. When we looked at the house we thought, “This place is huge! We’ll never fill it with our stuff!” The day that we closed on the house Jay started to move all of his airplanes. I should have taken a picture when they were all spread out on the floor. They stretched across the entire end of the basement. Jay looked at me and said, “I think I have a problem…”

Jay's PlanesHe worked hard to get them organized and hung up. They are mostly confined to one corner, now. This isn’t all of them, though. There are still a few missing. The space that they take up in the basement is about equal to the master bedroom upstairs.

Jay's WorkshopBesides the rest of the basement, there’s the portion that resides underneath the addition. You can kind of see the floor joist for the sunken family room in this picture. This is Jay’s workshop. It’s where he can keep his tools that make the most dust and attempt to contain it.

Jay's Outside EntranceThis is the other side of Jay’s workshop. It has an outside entrance so that when he has to take planes out of the basement he can take them this way. It will be much easier than trying to get them up the somewhat narrow basement stairs.

Jay in his workshopThere is Jay in his workshop! Already making good use of it!

Back GateTo end the tour I will take you into the back yard. There’s not a whole lot to it, but it’s a decent one. We have a great patio that we can’t wait to grill on in the summer. Plus there’s room where we can tear down the weird shed (an engineer built it… go figure) and put up a two car garage.

Back YardThe other corner of the yard has a play set in it. That will have to come down if we build a garage, but for now our friends down the street have a little girl who spotted it and wants to play on it constantly. At least it will be put to good use!

So, that’s our new house! Hopefully you enjoyed the tour and weren’t too bored. I’ll keep you posted as we make improvements. 🙂

Help For the Younger Generation

I have been so busy that I haven’t had time to update my blog. Jay and I moved into our new house this past weekend, and I do have some pictures to share when I get the chance, but in the meantime I needed to do a bit of a Public Service Announcement for the younger generation.

For the most part, the kids nowadays do not know how to properly clean anything or how to take care of the basic household things. They think that cooking means you take a frozen dinner out of the freezer and toss it in the microwave. Their parents aren’t teaching them these things because they want their kids to “enjoy” their childhood and not have to worry about non-fun things. This is a HUGE disservice to these kids. What are they going to do when they move out on their own? Oh wait… per Obamacare they can stay on their parents’ insurance until they are 26 so I guess that parents will have more time to teach them these things than I realized. Since the government doesn’t feel that you should be responsible for yourself until you’re 26 then maybe between rounds on World of Warcraft one of these young people will stumble across this blog post and learn a few things.

I am going to concentrate mainly on cleaning utensils. Based on the house that I moved into the five kids who lived there have absolutely no idea how to clean at all. Now, I’m going to pretend that you’re not starting with an absolute mess. I will just describe the every day cleaning that should be happening. Ready?

Dusting: This should be done on a weekly basis. You always want to start HIGH and work your way down. If you start low and work your way up you have just wasted your time. As you are dusting the dust will drift down. That’s why you start HIGH. You want to use a soft cloth that will actually pick up the dust and not just spread it around. You can use a commercial dust spray such as Endust or Pledge that also polishes your furniture as you clean. NEVER use a feather duster! All this does is puts the dust up in the air where it hangs out for a few minutes and then settles back down onto your freshly cleaned surfaces. You are going to want to actually wash your dusting rag (at least I do) because if you have allergies you don’t need that sitting around. Make sure that as you dust you are picking things up, dusting them off, and dusting under them. If you have any ceiling fans you will want to dust the blades every now and again, too.

Vacuuming: Once you have dusted you will want to vacuum. Now, you might say to me, “Kerry! I have hardwood floors! I don’t need to vacuum!” That’s fine. As long as you have a way of removing the dust and dirt from your floor and in the corners, do what makes you happy. I had hardwood floors throughout my old house and I still vacuumed. In this picture is a Rainbow vacuum. I LOVE my Rainbow! They are very expensive, but to me they are well worth the money if you have allergies. What happens is you fill the canister with water so that as you’re vacuuming the machine is pulling all of the dust and dirt down into the water where it’s trapped and can’t escape. You won’t have any dust blown back into the air and you don’t have to worry about changing a dirty vacuum bag. Yes, you have to then empty the water and dirt somewhere, but to me it’s well worth it. I have a head that is specifically for carpets and rugs, and then one with a brush that I use on the hardwood floors.

This is a crevice tool and should be used every time you vacuum. This helps you to get into the corners and around the edges where the vacuum can’t reach. Yes, dirt gets into corners where it collects and accumulates. Believe me, the lady who owned my house before me had a crevice tool that was in brand new condition because it couldn’t have ever been used! You can also use this crevice tool to vacuum between the cushions of your couch and chairs. You know, right where the crumbs fall when you’re eating in front of the TV.

This is an upholstery tool for the vacuum. If you have pets you should be using this tool every time you vacuum, too. Use it to vacuum off the furniture to remove fur and animal dander. This helps to keep the allergens down in the house so that you won’t get congested or sneezey. It also keeps your guests from carrying a little bit of your cats home with them on their clothes. Be sure to clean off the brush as you vacuum so that you can continue to pick up more fur and hair with it.

Just doing those two things once a week will help to make your house a nice environment in which to live. Friends and family will actually enjoy visiting if they don’t have to look at the giant dust bunnies that are accumulating in your corners. Depending on the size of your house, it won’t take you very long. Instead of watching that hour long TV show that you don’t really care for, but it’s the only thing on, try doing a little bit of cleaning. When your house looks good it helps you to feel good. It’s true!

The Packing Process

Before I started to pack up my house in preparation for my upcoming move, I felt that my house looked somewhat like this picture. Yes, there are a few things here and there but for the most part there’s not a ton of stuff to pack. This shouldn’t take me too long!

As I attempt to put things into boxes, however, this is how I feel like my house looks. I spend my time after work trying to pack and I feel like I’m not getting anywhere. I put stuff in boxes, label them, put them in a pile and then try to determine where I’m going to pack next. It feels like I’m not accomplishing anything because I can’t stay in one room and pack it. I might have a slight attention problem. lol

I start in the living room, packing my piano books. As I clear off the piano I find something that actually belongs in the spare bedroom. I go in there, see that mess, and start organizing and packing in there. I move this pile of boxes from here to there… I box up this little do-dad and put it in the box over there… I come across a Christmas ornament and then have to search for the Christmas totes so that I can put the ornament with the other stuff. Then I find something that should be packed with the stuff in the desk, so I wander into the library/office and start packing up the stuff in there. It’s bad.

That’s how I clean, too. I can’t stay in one room and clean it from top to bottom. Nope. I wander the house, cleaning here and there. I did this at Jay’s Sunday night. I started out in the bedroom, putting the clean sheets on the bed. Then I noticed that he had clean clothes that should be folded. I started folding them, but then I came across some kitchen towels so I walked out there to put them away. That’s when I noticed that the garbage needed to be changed out, so I pulled it out and headed to the back room where I knew that the other garbage needed to be emptied, too. As I’m walking past the bedroom I realized that I hadn’t finished folding the clothes. I am usually far more efficient than this! There has to be a cure!

You can imagine how much frustration I’m experiencing right now. It’s okay, though. It’s like the one character in the movie Shakespeare In Love constantly says, “Everything will be okay,” and when asked how he replies, “I don’t know. It’s a mystery.” Somehow everything does turn out okay.

I can’t wait to move into our new house! The commute to/from work will not be fun, but hopefully I won’t have to do that for too long. I look forward to going home to see Jay every night, even though it will only be a few hours during the week. I can’t wait to have my cats back with me, too. I know that it’s going to take a while for me to get everything unpacked and sorted, and I look forward to having Bob and Chester help me with that. They are such good helpers! I hope that Jay’s mom doesn’t react to them. She is allergic to cats, but doesn’t always react. Technically, I’m allergic to cats, too. I compensate for it by living on allergy medicine (which I would have to do even if I didn’t have cats) and trying to keep the fur and dander level down in the house with lots of vacuuming and dusting. It’s a pain, but well worth it. With Jay working at night it will be nice to have company when he’s not around. I’ve really missed the cats these past two weeks. Now I’m just days away from having them back with me!

Anyway, tonight continues the packing chaos. I have a list of things that need to get packed tonight. Hopefully that will keep me on track and limit the wandering.

Support Your Spouse

Jay eJets Sept 2011This handsome man is my husband. To be fair, he’s only been my husband for a week and a half so we’re still in the “newlywed” stage. However, I have told Jay that I hope our “newlywed” stage lasts for 50+ years.

For any of you who have been married for a while I will wait while you try to stop rolling your eyes. lol

I love Jay with all of my heart. I love who he is and I always want him to be happy. It is not my goal in life to change him. That’s a big mistake that a lot of people make when they get into a relationship; if they don’t like something about their partner they make up their mind to change it. Nope. Not going to happen. If you don’t like part of who that person is then leave them and find somebody else. Jay loves his R/C hobby, whether it’s planes or helicopters, and I don’t have the desire to make him stop participating in it. He works hard and so if he wants to take part of his paycheck and buy a new airplane I’m fine with it, as long as all of the bills are up-to-date and we aren’t tight on money. Jay is responsible enough to realize when he shouldn’t be spending and when he can splurge a little.

At our wedding reception I was informed that I have to stop being so supportive of Jay and his flying hobby. That’s what the wife of one of the guys from the club told me. On my wedding day. As I was standing in my wedding dress. I have to stop being supportive of my husband? Why? She informed me that it made the rest of the wives look bad. I’m sorry, but that’s not my fault. If they truly loved their husbands, and they could afford it, then the other wives should be encouraging their husbands’ hobbies. I know that at least one guy in the club has a very supportive wife, so there’s no way that I’m backing off. In fact, hearing that made me want to support him even more! Don’t tell me to stop showing my husband how much I love him just because you’re unable to do the same for your husband.

A lot of our society is greedy. All they care about is what they can get and what other people can do for them. If that’s how you feel in your relationship then you really need help. Yes, I realize that there are going to be tough times in a marriage and that you are going to be upset with your spouse, but that doesn’t mean that you stop loving them. People have different ways of showing their love, but all of them should include some kind of support. Ladies, if your husband is a huge football fan and that’s the only thing that he really looks forward to each week, then don’t bother him to work on the To Do list during the game. Guys, if your wife loves to sew, encourage her to attend trade shows or subscribe to hobby magazines. It goes both ways. It just seems like guys are getting the short end of the stick.

Stop being so supportive of your husband… sheesh. You might as well tell me to stop breathing! When you love somebody completely you want them to be happy. In order for them to be happy you should be willing to sacrifice some things. For instance, if your husband loves flying RC planes, then you go with him to the field to watch him fly instead of staying at home to cross stitch. Maybe I’m just different. I’m happy when Jay is happy. He has really been great about saving up money for our new house, so I’ve told him that after Christmas is over I really wouldn’t mind if he bought one of the new jets he’s been looking at. I know that he wouldn’t put us in a financial position where we are behind on our bills. I know that he’s smarter than that.

So, I will continue to be supportive of my husband. I will encourage him to buy new airplanes and accessories for those airplanes. I will continue to watch him fly and show off his skills. And I will continue to be the envy of the guys at the field who wish that their wives loved them half as much as I love Jay.

I Hate Packing

http://ts2.mm.bing.net/th?id=I.4695907609610389&pid=1.7&w=194&h=147&c=7&rs=1I hate packing. It doesn’t matter whether we’re talking about packing for vacation, packing for a move, or just packing my lunch. I procrastinate when I have to do it. When I go on vacation I usually don’t pack my clothes until the night before. I use the excuse that it’s so I can make sure that everything is clean, but that’s not true. It’s because I hate to do it. Even when I pack my overnight bag for Jay’s I’ve gotten to the point where I wait and do it Friday morning after I get dressed for work. Not a lot of thought goes into it, either. Basically I root through my drawers, figure out what I have that is clean and doesn’t need to be pressed, then I toss it in the bag. When packing for vacation I use a similar technique, except I keep an eye on what I’m tossing in and hope that I can make outfits out of most of it. lol

In a week and a half Jay and I will be signing the closing papers on our new house. Our first house together. I can’t wait! I’m so excited to be able to actually live with my husband (we are still living apart, and in different cities, until we get the new house). I can’t wait until I get to drive home from work and see him for a few hours before he has to head into work himself. Yes, I work first shift and he works third so we don’t get to spend a whole lot of time together during the week. But it will be nice just to see him every day!

Jay during danceJay has been so good when it comes to packing. He’s been making steady progress on his basement where all of his airplanes reside, plus all of the building stuff that goes along with the airplanes. I started packing his upstairs last weekend, but then on Sunday I didn’t get anything done because my sinuses were not behaving. Poor Jay had to experience the ‘in sickness’ part of our vows! They completely wiped me out, so not a whole lot got done at all on Sunday. It’s still hanging on a little bit today, but I at least attempted to do some packing at my house. I can’t even blame the cats for distracting me! They’ve been at my parents’ since the wedding so that I wouldn’t have to worry about hauling them back and forth a lot. So I have absolutely no excuse for why more of my house isn’t packed up. Except to say that I hate packing.

Once Jay and I get all moved I’m not moving again for a long time! Unless we win the lotto. Then I will pay somebody to come in and pack my stuff for me. 😉

DIY Cake Topper

DSC00366

If you haven’t already noticed, I’m not your typical run-of-the-mill kind of girl. Why be “normal” when I can be me? As Jay and I were planning the wedding he would come up with ideas and I would attempt to incorporate them as best as I could. After all, this wedding wasn’t just for me. I wanted it to represent him, too. Thus, our cake topper was born.

His original idea was to have two jets on top representing us. I don’t think of myself as a jet, though. A P3, yes… a giant plane that slowly lumbers around, observing, and showing her muscles when necessary, but for the most part not really instilling fear into the hearts of those who see her. Even as a P3, though, I didn’t feel that it would completely represent me. I decided that I needed something Civil War-ish on top. Since I didn’t have a whole lot of time to make something from scratch I remembered that my sister had given me a Scarlet O’Hara ornament a few years ago for Christmas. Perfect! You should have seen the looks on the faces of the people who were told what we were doing for the cake topper. However, Jay and I were so very pleased with the results that I wanted to do a little tutorial on how you can make your own cake topper.

DSC00351Here is a bad picture of the materials that I used for this project. Including the kit that we purchased for the A-10 (1:100 scale), our cake topper cost less than $20. Next time you’re in a store take a look at the cake toppers and see just what you can get for $20. I can guarantee you that none of them will be nearly as awesome as mine. 😉

You will need to purchase the plastic base ($1.57) so that you have a platform on which to build your topper. This will also keep your adornments out of the frosting of the cake and is easy to clean up. I then used some foam board, a remnant of green velvet that I bought at Hobby Lobby, some pretty antique-looking lace, and some straight pins. Also, you will need glue. More on that later.

DSC00352I wanted the platform that Scarlet was going to stand on to be about the same size as the top of my base. Flip the base upside down on your foam board and trace around it. I actually traced around the petals on the top, and then drew lines from point-to-point in order to make it circular.

DSC00355To cut out the circle it’s easiest to use an exacto knife or a sharp razor blade. Luckily my sweetie has the best work bench and I was able to use his scalpel (aka exacto knife) to cut out my circle.

DSC00360I found a beautiful piece of dark green velvet and used this as my base fabric. Cut a circle out of your material that is big enough to overlap the bottom of the circle.

DSC00361Since we are covering a circle you have to attack it with a plan in place as to how you’re going to glue it down so that you won’t get wrinkles. Because I was at Jay’s when I was making this the only glue that I found at hand (without digging into his stuff) was some thin CA that he uses for his models. It’s very similar to super glue, so I wouldn’t recommend that you use it if you have other options. Hot glue would work or even just plain white crafter’s glue.

I started out by gluing down four sides, almost in a square. Leave the fabric in the corners alone because you are going to want this free so that you can overlap and pull it tight in a little bit.

DSC00362Once you have glued down the four sides, go back, pull the corners in towards the middle and glue those down. Make sure that you are pulling it tight so that you can pull the wrinkles out. You will still have a bit of overlapping fabric that is sticking out.

DSC00363Next we want to take care of the excess fabric. After all, we want this to lay flat on our plastic base. Using a pair of scissors, cut some of the extra fabric off while leaving enough to pull tight and glue down. In this picture you can see that I cut one side close to the part that was already glued. I then just glued the pieces that are sticking up, down onto the already glued fabric.

DSC00364Check to make sure that it fits as you want it. Don’t worry too much if there are a few wrinkles or spaces because we’ll cover this up later.

DSC00365Since we had a jet going on top Jay wanted it to look like it was in flight. The model that we had purchased happened to have a slit in the perfect spot under the fuselage, so we found a thin wire that would fit and attached it to the base.

DSC00366To finish the cake topper, hot glue the fabric-covered base to the plastic platform. Then wrap the lace around the edge of the base to figure out how big of a piece you need. Due to the fact that I was using velvet I didn’t want to glue the lace on because I was afraid that you would be able to see the glue spots when looking at it. This is why I used the foam board. You use the straight pins to pin the lace to the platform. They go in easily due to the fact that it’s just foam you’re sticking them into and it holds very well. Once the lace is on, attach your jet to the wire and set Scarlet on top. There you have it! Your own cake topper!

Train Show 2012

A few weeks ago in the midst of wedding planning there was a train show happening in town. They usually hold one in the spring and one in the fall, and Jay had missed the last two shows that they had. Not only does Jay like to work with remote control airplanes, but he’s also interested in model trains. He already had plans in the works for a train room in the new house.

Just to show you what other talents my sweetie has, here is the coffee table that he currently has in his living room. He designed the track layout for this particular train, and it really does move. When we move into the new house I think that the cats are going to enjoy this coffee table. It will drive them nuts because they won’t be able to get at the moving parts!

There were quite a few people at this show. Wherever you looked there was something that had to do with trains. There were big trains and little trains.

There were even themed trains! I had to laugh when I saw this one. I didn’t look very closely to see on which car the lamp was positioned.

There were even some trains that were set up and running. I’m not sure what the point of this display was, but it was interesting.

Being a farm girl I had to take a picture of this part of it.

There weren’t just trains, either. There were things for the scenery that you build around the tracks. I was amazed at all of these buildings. I was informed that the decoration of the scenery would be part of my responsibility. lol

There were engines, cabooses, and box cars. I’d never seen so many pieces to trains in all of my life. Every car had its own box. It was so cute!

Here are some train pictures.

You have little trains and then the BIG trains.

Besides trains, you also had other model things such as cars and tractors.

But guess what happened! At the train show I managed to find something that I liked. Can you believe it?? Yep, I walked out of a train show with two new books on the Civil War. Hey! I can’t help it! The guy was set up and I was just trying to help him out. He was a little disappointed, though, when I told him that I already had most of the books that he had on his table. lol

It wasn’t a very detailed explanation regarding the train show, but at least you were able to see some pictures. There’s not much to tell right now. Until Jay starts building more track layouts we don’t have much to do with them at his house, besides the coffee table. Once we move then he will be able to enjoy them a little more.

Mr and Mrs Hot Stuff

I got married on Saturday, November 24th. I married the most wonderful man I’ve ever met and with whom I’m insanely in love.

I am the luckiest woman in the world. I never had a moment of hesitation or a single doubt. I know that I love Jay with all of my heart and soul, and I want to be with him for ever.

I’m hoping that somebody managed to get a picture of Jay’s face when I walked down the aisle. I do believe that you could have aptly described it as ‘awestruck’.

Everything was beautiful and perfect. Looking back, I wouldn’t change a thing! Considering we got engaged on Labor Day and only had a little over two months to get it put together, I would say that everything came together perfectly. It was just meant to be.

I remember standing at the altar and hoping that Jay knew what he was getting into. I hoped that there weren’t any doubts on his part. He reassured me that there were not and that he is truly happy. It seems silly, but I get happier every day just knowing that I’m married to him. That probably makes a lot of people feel ill, but I don’t care. Jay and I really do love each other that much.

I’m still waiting for our official pictures, so for now the ones that I stole off of Facebook will just have to do.

This was when we entered the reception. We wanted to really make a statement, so Jay told me to carry him. There’s not much to him so I was easily able to do it and it really brought a huge laugh out of the room. The main compliments we received were about my dress (which I hope the photographer managed to get some good pictures of), the entrance into the reception, and how much fun everybody had. That was the whole point of everything. We just wanted everybody to have a good time. We had a GREAT time! We were so disappointed when it was all over.

Here is a picture of my new husband and my new mother-in-law during their dance. Karen is such a sweetheart! We joke that when Jay and I move into our new house, which is only three doors down from Karen’s, that we are going to paint glow-in-the-dark arrows on the sidewalk. That way no matter which house we are at we can find our way home after spending the evening drinking wine. lol. I really do love Karen and I’m lucky to have her as my new mother-in-law and neighbor.

Here I am with Hannah. I was introduced to her and her and her parents last year when I started dating Jay. They live just a couple blocks away and she is such a cutie! According to her mom, Hannah was so excited about the wedding that her and her friend practiced dancing all week! As soon as Jay walked into the reception Hannah ran up to him and told him that she had to have the first dance. He worked it out so that she did. Later, she caught the bouquet. She spent as much time out on the dance floor with us as possible. I think that she will be talking about our reception for years!

Those are all of the pictures that I have to show you for now. We had a great time and we truly felt so blessed to be surrounded by so many people who love us. It was a perfect day. 🙂

P.S. – I apologize if there are links randomly in my post. I tried to delete them, but it didn’t work. I didn’t post any links to anything so don’t try to open them. Thanks!

Happy Thanksgiving

On this Thanksgiving Day I wanted to take the time to really thank God for all He has given me. I attended mass this morning and yet I still feel like I haven’t truly thanked Him for all that He has blessed me with. My heart is full with love and thanksgiving today, so I hope you will allow me to share some of it with you.

I am thankful for a loving God who helps to fill my heart with happiness and helps me with some of life’s more difficult moments. I know that He will always be there for me, even when things feel hopeless.

I am thankful for living in a country where even on my worst day I know that I am far better off than most people on this earth. I don’t hunger, I have a roof over my head, I have heat in my house, and I don’t fall asleep wondering if my house will be bombed during the night.

I am thankful for my family. Despite the fact that I miss my older sister terribly, I know that she is still with us in spirit and I am thankful for every day that I had with her. I am thankful for two very understanding and supportive parents who love me no matter what, even when we irritate each other. And I am thankful for my younger sister who tends to have an attitude problem, but who I know will be there if I ever truly needed her.

I am thankful for my cats. They remind me that I don’t need to have the latest gadget or be a fashion maven for they love me anyway. After all, I am the lady with the can of food. 😉

I am thankful for my health. I have my bad days, and there are days when I get glutened, but I don’t have cancer and I can control my diet. I intend on living a very long life and keeping myself healthy.

Last, but never least, I am most thankful this Thanksgiving for the love of my life, Jay. There are times when I wish that we had met years ago because I want more time to spend with him. Forever is not nearly long enough. We are getting married on Saturday and I am so VERY happy. Despite what he thinks, he is perfect for me and I wouldn’t have him any other way. People have warned us that things will change after we’re married, but I’m hoping that they will change for the best. After all, how can it not? I know that we’ve only known each other for sixteen months, but sometimes I still get choked up because my heart overflows with my love for him. I spoil him because I want him to know that he’s loved and cared for. I might be trying to make up for all of the years we’ve had to spend apart, constantly searching for our other half, always being disappointed when yet another relationship fell through.

Jay is my love and my life. I don’t know what I would ever do without him. A few months ago at work things could have easily gone horribly wrong for him and he would have been taken from me. I would have gone on, but I would have been but an empty shell where once love lived. I know that God put Jay on this earth for me and I’m ever thankful that I found him. My goal is to always make him happy. I never want to change him and I never want to put down any of his dreams. If he wants something that might be unattainable I will do my best to find a way to obtain a similar thing for him. Even when I’m angry and upset with Jay I know that I will still love him with all of my heart. Life is so fragile and brief. Always live each day being true and honest with everybody. Let them know how you feel so that if something should happen to you they will never have to guess at your true feelings.

I am thankful for Saturday when I get to promise my heart to Jay for ever.

May you be lucky enough to find somebody who fills you with the kind of love that I have for Jay.

God bless you.

Another Apology…

I feel the need to apologize to all of you who read my last post and were a bit confused. I did NOT get arrested last weekend. It was an entirely fabricated story with kernels of truth. You see, when I arrived home Saturday night Jay was still “napping” and is notorious for being hard to wake up. I just wanted to see how he would react, so I woke him up and apologized for taking so long but that his stepdad had taken forever to get to the station. There was definitely a reaction!

I wrote that post after Jay challenged me to do so, and make it believable. Apparently I did a good job of it based on some of the comments I’ve received! I promise that in the future I will do a better job of alerting you to the fact that I’m writing a piece of fiction.

Thanks! 🙂
