Squirrel Hunting

Bob SleepingThere are times when it’s hard being a cat in my house. I mean, there are only so many hours in a day and there is a LOT of sleeping to do! It’s a rough life. Oliver Twist and his hard-knock life have nothing on my cats.

Lingerie Chest4

My cats are both indoor cats. They are NOT allowed outside. At all. Ever. They have learned this very well because the one time that Bob fell out of the bathroom window (first floor of the house) he was freaked out and trying to jump back INTO the house through that window (which was about 7 feet off of the ground). He almost made it, too.

Bob and Chester StalkingThis is when I feel bad about keeping them inside. Jay refers to this move that Bob is doing as ‘Bob melting into the floor’. They are both attempting to hunker down… ears flat against their heads… and Bob is just barely peeking up over the edge of the screen. The bird feeder is out there and sometimes the sparrows or morning doves will walk up onto the porch to get the seed that has fallen onto the porch. Perhaps that’s what the cats were watching…

Cats Squirrel Hunting

Nope. It was a giant rodent! Jay has referred to it as a giant chipmunk. lol All the cats know is that they are supposed to chase it and eat it. Is it mean that I keep them from being able to act on their natural instinct? Is it terrible that I torture the cats by feeding the birds so that they can watch them? Chester loves watching the morning doves, and Bob prefers the rabbit or chipmunk that periodically show up. Am I a mean momma?

Bob and Chester Watching

Oops… there it goes. Oh well, it will be back. When it does reappear I will once again be wondering if I’m terrible by enticing the rodents and birds in where the cats can see them. *sigh*

The Sidewalk

Sidewalk 8-17-13If you remember from my post about my new driveway I mentioned that we now have to replace the sidewalk. I was okay with it, though, because the pavers were not level so it was a pain to shovel in the winter. Also, dirt had collected in the middle where the pavers were mashed in and I would always slip on it when it was wet. Always.

Also, we couldn’t have a ratty ol’ sidewalk sitting next to our gorgeous new driveway (which I love more and more every day).

Pile of Pavers 8-30-13Jay is really good at these kinds of projects, so I let him take the reins on this one.

He pulled up all of the old pavers, as seen here in the back of the yard all stacked up. These were the concrete pavers that were used for the landing off of the steps.

Sidewalk PaversThen he coordinated with a friend (who has a truck) and they got the new pavers for the sidewalk. Due to the fact that it’s a rather long sidewalk we decided that we would reuse the old pavers that were still in good shape. After all, we didn’t want this project to cost us an arm and a leg.

Sidewalk OutlineJay got the base all situated and then figured out his lines for the edges. There were some things that he had to figure into the equation, and put a slight slope on it so that it would drain away from the driveway (and house!).

Sidewalk BuildingWith the help of another friend, they started putting the pavers down. Jay has never put a sidewalk in before, but I think that he did a really good job.

Are you ready to see what it looks like?

Sidewalk Finished 1I like it! It’s got a patchwork quilt kind of feel to it.

Keep in mind that when I took these pictures it had rained on and off all day so the older pavers were darker.

Sidewalk LandingWe used 16″ pavers, but didn’t have enough room right next to the steps. Jay and I tossed some ideas back and forth, and then we ended up with this. I like it. A lot. I don’t think that there is anybody else who has a sidewalk like this.

Sidewalk Finished 2We ran out of the edgers between the sidewalk and the driveway, but we will get some more to finish it off.

Even with those missing I really like how it turned out.

Didn’t Jay do a wonderful job??

To See Or Not to See…

Me and KimberlyI thought that I would do a fun, weird, and typically ‘Kerry’ type of post today. Something whimsical, but also something that you won’t really learn too much about. I think that Jay might find this one interesting, though, so Jay if you’re reading this… keep going.

Wasn’t I a cute kid? A little odd, but cute. Little did I realize that this picture would become a foretelling of my future…

My Giant GlassesThat was back around 1990 when fashion frames were very popular. Yes, I used to curl my bangs, too. Oh, and this was my birthday so as you can see I was really in HIGH fashion with my giant underwear that I received as a gift! lol  Jay is one LUCKY man! 😉

I really did need glasses. My parents were both nearsighted, as were my grandparents. My younger sister got glasses around the same time that I did, too. Hers weren’t nearly as large, though. Nope. She wasn’t nearly as cool as I was!

Jay has always asked me to describe what it looks like when I don’t have my glasses on. I can tell people that I am blind as a bat, but unless you yourself are nearsighted then you really have no clue. Jay has eyes like a hawk (lucky!) so my goal was to be able to show him what I see when I don’t have my glasses on. I found a site that had a good example…

Hello, puppy! With my glasses on if I stood five feet away from this dog I would be able to see him clearly.

And here is what this same dog would look like if I took my glasses off. This would still be at a distance of five feet or so. Actually, based on an experiment that I just did with Chester (she has a pretty clearly defined pattern in her fur) the spots on this dog would be even blurrier. I can see that it’s a dog, but it’s basically just a blur of color to me.

Can you imagine what it would be like to live with that kind of vision all of the time?

Actually, that might explain a LOT of my choices that are currently hanging in my closet. Hmm..

Easter 1983

Wait! Nope, I refuse to accept that. After all, based upon my genetic code… I can make anything look good! This is the perfect example:

My dad would not look nearly as good in his orange suit if I hadn’t been standing next to him.

Bikini Babe 1982

I could have been a supermodel…

If things had gone differently I could be on the catwalk right now… strutting my stuff in the latest and hottest fashions.

Kerry's Piano Recital

Women would want to be me…

Men would want to date me…

Hairstylists would be itching to chop my hair off (even as a famous supermodel I would not allow them to cut my hair… not happening!)….

Kerry's RecitalTeenaged girls would be trying to copy my style…

Poor delusional souls. Don’t they realize that this

<———————–

can’t be made? Nope. There is only one being who could possibly have the talent enough to create such a perfect being, even with my giant glasses. After all, I was made in His image. Man, is God good looking or what??

Kerry As A Fashionista

Yep. It’s a good thing that I’m not a world famous model. I wouldn’t have time to play with the cats or give Jay a back rub. I wouldn’t have time to play piano or refinish the dresser that is still a work in progress. Nope. I would be too busy trying to make every party I was invited to, even though that would be impossible because EVERYBODY would invite me. *sigh* I am exhausted just thinking about it.

My 14th Birthday

“Lord it’s hard to be humble when you’re perfect in every way….”

A-10 Warthog Cross Stitch Update 8-27-13

Now that I’ve finished stitching my quilt square I can get back to work on Jay’s Warthog. I think that I needed a break from it because all of that blue was starting to get to me.

Warthog 9-16-12Holy smokes! This appears to be the last picture that I took of this project. This was taken September 16th of last year!! It has really been almost a year since I last picked it up? That makes sense… between the engagement, wedding, moving, job hunting, and house selling I haven’t had a lot of time to stitch. At least, not until I got a job where I can’t access my email during lunch. lol

A-10 Warthog Cross Stitch 8-27-13As I add more colors I can see the jet really start to come out. I was worried that this would end up being an abstract-type of picture, but it might end up better than anticipated!

The only thing that matters is that Jay is happy with it. After all, I don’t think that he’s ever had a girlfriend make anything for him. Now that I’m his wife, though, and I’ve made him wing bags and a prop cover this will all be old hat for him. “Yeah, she made me something else… big deal…” 😉

People: Good and Bad

If you’ve surfed the internet at all since Sunday then you’ve at least read the headlines regarding Miley Cyrus’ performance on the MTV awards show. I didn’t see it (I hardly watch any TV at all), but from what I’ve read it was quite shocking and left little to the imagination. Even the far left Liberal Progressives were shocked and dismayed. I know! I didn’t know that was possible!

While reading The Blaze tonight I read something that I wanted to share with you. It is an open letter from a mother to her daughter. It’s posted on her blog, and though I haven’t read any of her other posts, this one is definitely worth reading.

This mother is dead on when she says, “Miley Cyrus is not edgy or cool or sexy. She’s a desperate girl screaming for attention: Notice me. Tell me I’m pretty. See how hot I am. I know all the guys want me. All the girls want to be me.”

EXACTLY! And yet, this is the exact way that many people are living. Think about it… Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc. Even this blog. You share everything with the world. You post about yourself. You put yourself out there. Why? For most people it’s a validation that they matter and are important. How many Facebook friends do they have? How many times has their Tweet been shared? Do they have a lot of likes on their latest YouTube video? How many times has my blog been viewed? We all get wrapped up in it in one way or another.

I don’t want to live like that. I use this blog not as validation, but as a way to share pictures of my life with my friends and also to share information. And yes, sometimes just to be egomaniacal; that people do care about my opinion on important matters and so I need to share. Is that what I’m doing now? Maybe. Or maybe I’m trying to point out one of the ways that our society sucks.

I had a Facebook account. I hated it. I wasted so much time on there that I was literally disgusted with myself. I didn’t want to play the games that suck you in. I didn’t really care what my ‘friends’ had eaten for lunch or dinner. It didn’t matter to me what somebody thought about the latest episode of whatever reality show is the most popular right now. I had signed up for Facebook so that I could keep in touch with my friends and to keep tabs on what they were doing, etc. I enjoyed seeing the pictures of my friends’ kids. But I really hated the ‘vaguebooking’ that was going on. You’ve seen the posts… “… why does this always happen? When will it ever get better?” That kind of post is one that is done to validate your importance in other peoples’ lives. People will ask what is going on… what happened… are you okay? STOP THE INSANITY!

That’s why I deleted my account. I was tired of the drama that Facebook causes in our lives and the time being wasted for nothing. I hadn’t even opened Facebook for two months and I didn’t miss it. I had to have my password reset just so that I could delete the account. I gave some people a heads up regarding my actions so that they wouldn’t become concerned, but it’s been almost a week and I haven’t heard a thing from anybody who was a friend of mine on there. Does that bother me? Nope. Not at all. In fact, it’s rather freeing.

Last week, during my lunch, I read an article about a woman in Canada who sent a letter to a family with an autistic son telling them that they needed to either move or else euthanize their son. It seems that when this boy is outside he tends to make some noises that irritate the woman who wrote the letter. I can’t name this woman because she cowardly signed it “One pissed off mother!!!!!” Let me share a portion of this letter with you:

“He is a hindrance to everyone and will always be that way!!!!! Who the hell is going to care for him?????? No employer will hire him, no normal girl is going to marry/love him and you are not going to live forever!! Personally, they should take whatever non retarded body parts he possesses and donate it to science. What the hell else good is he to anyone!!! You had a retarded kid, deal with it…properly!!!!! What right do you have to do this to hard working people!!!!!!!! I HATE people like you who believe, just because you have a special needs kid, you are entitled to special treatment!!! GOD!!!!!!”

My first instinct is to wonder how anybody could be so completely cold-hearted and devoid of feelings? Can you imagine what kind of mother she must be if she is incapable of feeling empathy or sympathy for another family? Instead of thanking God for the fact that her children are not autistic, she is instead throwing all of her hate and horridness on this poor family. I literally almost broke into tears while sitting at my desk. It completely ruined the rest of my day.

I have NEVER heard a pregnant woman telling somebody that she’s hoping that her child is born with special needs. I don’t believe that anybody prays to God, asking that their children be diagnosed with autism so that they can then get special treatment.

“You had a retarded kid, deal with it…properly!!!!”

That one sentence really hit me hard. How exactly does one ‘deal with it’? And what is the proper way in which to do so?

Do you place your child in a school that is supposed to be geared towards their special needs? Do you do this even though that school is on the opposite end of the State so that you only get to see your child when they are on vacation from school during the holidays? If so, then my family dealt with my older sister properly. Of course, I’m sure that “One pissed off mother!!!!” never had to give permission, over the phone (!), for her daughter to be examined for rape because the people who are supposed to be caring for her were neglectful and let a male student wander into their daughter’s bedroom unattended. (Thankfully nothing had happened). I’m sure that “One pissed off mother!!!” never had to drive 9 hours in record time to pick up her child and bring her back those 9 hours of traveling so that her doctor could fix the very serious medical condition that the people out at the special school had created (Chrissy’s platelets were dangerously low because the doctors out there didn’t know what they were doing).

What else can you do if that doesn’t work? Well, you could bring your daughter home and put her in a school in your area that is supposed to work with her. Except that you hear reports that she was wandering out in the parking lot by herself for a little while… next to a VERY busy highway. Or you attempt to potty train her so that she can take one step towards a ‘normal’ life, except the school refuses to work with her because it’s too much of a bother for them.

I’m sorry that this woman is so selfish that she can’t understand why the autistic boy is making noise when he’s outside. Sometimes it’s the only way that they have to express themselves. You don’t tell a mother whose child has colic that perhaps she ought to properly deal with her baby so that the neighbors aren’t inconvenienced by the constant crying.

I’m kind of rambling in this post because this last topic hits so close to home. I really wish that you could have known Chrissy. She has been gone for 6 years and I still miss her so much. My life would be completely different if she was still here. I more than likely wouldn’t have married Jay because I wouldn’t have been able to move so far away. I willingly gave up a lot of what I wanted for myself so that I could stay at home and help with Chrissy. But she was worth it. I am the person that I am because of Chrissy. Missing her still hurts. What I wouldn’t give to have a few more minutes with her, sitting on my lap, kicking things off of the stand next to us so that she can get more comfortable, and drooling on me. What I wouldn’t give to have her be able to give me ‘the chin’ once more… or laugh when I do something silly to her… or try to ‘sneak’ the fact that she had something she wasn’t supposed to.

Knowing how full of love Chrissy was makes me hurt to think that somebody would completely disregard Chrissy and the impact that she had on others just because they thought she was annoying. In Church a few weeks ago we discussed the fact that God often comes in forms that we don’t expect. We were told that a Messiah would come and we expected that the Son of God would be this great person… rich… princely… stately… perfect. Jesus was not what they pictured the Son of God would look like, especially since he was known to hang out with the poor and downtrodden. Nowadays it makes sense to us, but back then it didn’t. Look at Abraham Lincoln. He could never get elected in today’s political arena. So whose to say that God isn’t coming to us in the form of these special kids?

“What the hell else good is he to anyone!!!”

I’ll tell you what good he is… he teaches others about love… about sacrifice… about pain… about overcoming the odds… about what life is really all about… he is teaching a neighborhood about hate, but also about love… he is somebody’s child…

… and he is made in the image of God.

That’s good enough for me. How about you?

Dresser Refinishing Project

Are you rolling your eyes yet? I know… yet another project that Kerry is undertaking! If you think that you’re rolling your eyes you should see poor Jay! Although, he’s so used to me starting projects that I don’t think it even phases him anymore. So what’s my latest project?

Grandma's BedroomI need to get better about taking ‘BEFORE’ pictures! Do you see that dresser in the picture? The light one in the foreground? That’s my current project. This picture was taken in the house that I just sold. It used to be my grandma’s house and this dresser was one of the things that was left in the house for my use.

Dresser BeforeI did take pictures as I was getting ready to do the first layer of stripping! I kept this dresser because it was a nice size and I could tell that it was real wood. I knew that underneath that scratched-up paint there was a gorgeous dresser aching to get out!

Drawer BeforeIt just needs some TLC…

Dresser After First StrippingI had to move the dresser inside, but the stripper that I’m using doesn’t give off horribly noxious fumes so it can be used in the house. Thank goodness!

The first layer of stripper only took off a little bit of the paint. I didn’t know what I was going to find under the top most layer. I hoped that it would be something beautiful.

Dresser Drawer After First StrippingWhen I took off the first layer on the drawer I knew that I had something good. I was horrified that somebody could have covered up such a beautiful color on this dresser! The top layer was a very light brown, almost as if it was supposed to look like maple. Underneath that was a layer of white paint… then some very old varnish and almost a mahogany stain.

Dresser Top After First StrippingLooking at the top of the dresser I figured that they had painted over the original stained finish because the top was very badly scratched. Also, one of the back legs isn’t in the best of shape.

Dresser After Second StrippingI’m not going to give up, though. I’ve managed to remove most of the paint and varnish. It’s just the old layer of stain that is giving me problems. I need to get it down to the original wood so that I can restain it with the same color that I used for my bookshelves in the library.

Dresser Drawer Before Final CleaningI am really happy with the drawers, though. Again, I have more stain to remove, but you can see the beauty of the piece and the carvings. I concentrated on the carvings on the drawers this weekend. They are going to really be what draws your eye so I wanted to make sure that they were as clean as I could get them.

Dresser Drawer CleaningDespite the fact that I piled the carvings with stripper, I couldn’t get all of the old layers out. My husband has a Dremel tool with a special wheel that would remove the layers without hurting the carvings. I didn’t want to use sandpaper because this is a soft wood and is easily marred.

Dresser Drawer After Second StrippingIt’s really cleaning up!! I just have to be patient with removing the stain. I know that once I can get it all done that it will be a gorgeous piece for my living room.

Dresser After Second StrippingHopefully the next time that I post about this dresser I will be showing you pictures of a naked dresser!

Church Square Finished!

Church Square 8-11-13One night it looks like this:

Church Square 8-12-13The next night it is done!

As you can see the waste canvas was still on it. I was nervous about the removal process because I had never done this before. I looked up the directions online one more quick time before tackling it…

It took me about an hour, but when all was said and done this was the result:

Finished Church Square 8-12-13

I can’t wait to see it added to the wall hanging at church. Thanks for following along with this project! Now that this is done I’m back to work on the warthog and will post updates when I have time. Thanks!

The Driveway Project

Since I managed to sell my other house (finally!) we decided to put some of that money to good use. How?

Driveway BeforeJay has a better picture of what the driveway used to look like, but this will have to do for now. This was before we cut down the trees, moved the fence, and widened the driveway. At this point in time we could only park one of our cars in there.

New Driveway 5-11-13It was great to have the open space and the second spot in which to park. As you can see, though, our driveway really wasn’t in great condition. Jay parked close to the fence… right where the old flower bed resided. It would get very muddy when it rained and it was very bumpy in there. Not only that, but at the end where the driveway met up with the road the bricks that were there were all mushed down and had divots that allowed our cars to scrape the sidewalk. Not to mention that you can somewhat see how the sidewalk had been lifted by the tree that used to be parked next to it. That raised square made it difficult to shovel in the winter; not to mention the fact that I used to worry about somebody tripping on it.

So we called up somebody whom we knew did concrete work. He is a really great guy and gave us a very reasonable quote. We thought about it and then decided to go ahead and do it.

Day 1 DiggingDay 1: Dig up the current driveway materials and part of sidewalk that will be replaced. Don’t forget to take fence down first. Oh, and pound on the door until Jay wakes up to move his car OUT of the driveway. If you’re wondering, no… once Jay went to sleep he managed to sleep through all of the noise and commotion going on outside. Yes, the bedroom is on that side of the house.

Driveway Day 1Look at that mess! When I got home that day and saw this I wondered how in the world they were going to get that cleaned up to have the concrete poured in a few days. Look at that mess! We were told that it would take two, maybe three, days at most. After the first day they still had half of the driveway to dig up!

Driveway Day 1 TwoIt was a good thing, though, that Jay was no longer on shut down. Otherwise I have a feeling that I would have arrived home from work one evening to find Jay and my dad (because my dad would definitely want to play with the excavator, too) standing in a giant pit where my backyard used to be… grinning ear to ear and completely filthy. I would then have to figure out how to pay to repair all of the damage that was done when they decided to see what else they could dig up and managed to create a mess all through the streets of our neighborhood.

Driveway Day 2Day 2: More digging done. Some of the forms put in place and ready for the concrete. All of the driveway has been dug up at this point. Still no concrete, though…

Driveway Day 2 Gravel

There was a bit of a hindrance that had to be corrected early on the morning of the second day. Apparently the tree that had been in the corner of the fence had long-reaching feelers and the excavator was unable to deal with them. We called in our own personal Stump Grinder guy and he took care of it for us.

Driveway Day 2 DirtIt was still slightly disappointing that this is how my driveway looked after two days of work. To be fair, the guy who was doing it had a one woman crew… and then a friend who showed up to help.

Good thing that it didn’t rain. Can you imagine the giant mud puddle that would have resulted??

Driveway Day 3 Concrete!Day 3: CONCRETE!!!!

Isn’t it beautiful??!! When I saw this I thought, “Yes, it was definitely worth it!” We have to wait 10 days before we’re allowed to park on it, but it’s done!

Driveway Day 3 FinishedLook how smooth! Look how big! Look at the flat sidewalk!

It really did turn out better than we had hoped. The guy widened the end of it slightly for us so that Jay doesn’t have to maneuver quite so much when he backs in… and there aren’t any cock-eyed bricks!

Driveway Day 3 Concrete PadIt looks so immense! How can we possibly use up that much space? lol… it will quickly shrink once we get the cars parked on it. Until then we go outside and gaze upon it… marveling at the swirls… moseying over the expanse… shedding a tear at the sight…

*Sigh*

The only thing is that this project has led into another one…

Sidewalk 8-17-13The sidewalk leading up to the back porch now needs to be redone. It’s okay, though, because it wasn’t in the best shape anyway. The pavers had sunk in the middle so that when it rained the patches of dirt that had collected would get slick and I would ALWAYS slip on it. So even though we hadn’t planned on redoing the sidewalk at this time, we will be working on it shortly.

One other home improvement project that we’ve done:

Now you see it….

Driveway Day 3 Sidewalk

Now you don’t:

Backyard 8-18-13

Do you need a moment? Go ahead… I’ll wait…

Swingset 8-18-13That’s right! We took down the play set!

Let me answer the question that we’ve heard every time we mentioned doing this… IF we have kids this play set would have been in bad shape by the time that they would have been old enough to use it. Besides, my sisters and I grew up using one of those old metal A-framed swing sets. We loved ours and played on it a lot. Also, it’s easier to patch a cut from a protruding bolt as compared to trying to remove slivers from little hands.

Swingset Gone! 8-18-13I really like it being gone. We plan on taking the landscape timbers that are still outlining the area out and tilling up the soil. Then we’ll just seed it back to grass.

I am trying to keep in mind that it’s our first summer here and that we’re still trying to make it our own. It’s just hard when I look around and see other really nice lawns that look way better than ours. But ours will get there. Eventually. I just have to have patience.

My Newest Hobby

Silly BobThis is Bob. Bob has three main purposes in life: eat, poop, and shed. This last purpose contributes to my newest hobby (at least, according to Jay it is my new hobby). I found out a few years ago that I’m very allergic to cats. What?! Allergic to cats? Since I was unwilling to give up my cats I knew that it meant I would have to keep the cat dander down to a minimum. I also am unable to say ‘No’ to my cats, so they sleep with me at night. That means that my quilts get covered in a fine layer of cat fur and dander.

So how does this all relate to my newest hobby? Jay claims that doing laundry is one of my hobbies because I’m always doing it. Between my clothes, his clothes, the towels and the linens we manage to have quite the pile of laundry. When we moved into our house we brought Jay’s washer and dryer with us. They had some years on them, but I think that the washer threw a fit that it was being used so often. It started to give me trouble and eventually I would have to babysit it every time because it would stop during the middle of the cycle when the tub was full of water. Not fun. Jay says that I broke it, but I maintain that it was just lazy. lol

Laundry never stops, so we started looking around to see what was available. Jay’s washer was tiny, only about 3.6 cu ft or so. It made washing my quilts very difficult because you had to squish them in there. When we were looking around some of my stipulations were that it was at least a 4.0 cu ft washer and I did NOT want a front loader. I know a handful of people who have front loaders and love them, but at this point they aren’t worth the extra cost to me. You see, I didn’t want to pay an arm and a leg for it. We stumbled across a set around the beginning of July that we felt we just couldn’t pass up because the deal was really great.

This is my new toy! It is an LG washer and I really love it. I wasn’t interested in an HE machine, but the price was right and the size was perfect. It’s 4.5 cu ft and I can wash all kinds of things in it!

One of Jay’s favorite features is the fact that it has SmartDiagnosis where if something isn’t working correctly you dial the phone number and hold the phone up to the washer, push a button, and the washer talks to the computer on the other end of the phone. The phone then tells you what’s wrong and how to fix it, or if you need a repair man it tells the repair man what part to take to fix the machine. Hopefully I won’t have to use that feature! My favorite feature (besides the GIANT tub without the center agitator) is the happy little song that it plays when the wash cycle is done. I refer to it as the ‘Happy Little Washer’ song. The dryer plays a Happy Little Dryer tune, as well.

The only thing that I really don’t care for is the fact that it’s controlled by a ton of electronics. I miss the knob that you would turn and pull out. Now if I want certain settings I have to play around and figure out which wash setting is closest so that I can edit it. Also, the wash cycle is LONG. I was used to my wash taking about 30 minutes and the dryer about an hour. Now the wash takes about an hour and the dryer around 30 minutes.

So far, though, so good. I enjoy being able to run larger loads through it. I REALLY love the fact that I will no longer have to take my couch cover to my parents’ house to wash it. I have a washer that it fits into! Woo-hoo! After using my new toys for a little over a month I would definitely recommend them to others.

Church Square Update 8-11-13

Church Square 5-17-13Back on May 18th this is what my church square looked like. I had just barely begun to outline the fuselage of the airplane. There was a ton of fabric left to fill in! I would never get this done…

Cross Stitch Church Square 6-26-13On June 26th I had managed to stitch quite a bit of the airplane. It was still missing the tail, a complete wing and part of the other wing, but progress was being made!

Church Square 7-4-13A mere week later, and with the help of a long holiday weekend, I started work on the continents. Maybe it wouldn’t take long for me to get this square done after all…

Church Square 7-29-13A few weeks after that found me working on the border after filling in the continents. I could now begin my outlining!

Church Square 8-11-13And here we are now. The plane is completely outlined… the stops that Amelia Earhart made on her trips are marked… and Jay’s name has appeared at the bottom. The only thing left to do is stitch our last name and then add mine on the right. Once that is done then I get to remove the waste canvas. Don’t forget that this is being stitched on a square of felt, so I had to use the waste canvas in order to do my counted cross stitch. I’ve never used waste canvas before so this will definitely be interesting to see how easily it comes out. Wish me luck!
