Project Linus Blanket #18

Typically when I crochet a blanket for Project Linus it’s for bigger kids. However, I had found a pattern that I wanted to try, so I decided to make a baby blanket this time.

Project Linus Blanket #18 - Blueberry Ice Cream - 3-27-19

Blanket #18

“Blueberry Ice Cream”

I named this blanket after the yarn that I used. It is Lion Brand’s Ice Cream yarn named Blueberry. The pattern was originally printed in Crochet World’s Feb 2017 issue, but I saw it in a special issue last fall. It’s called “Bubbles Blanket & Pillow.”

The yarn is a #3 weight baby yarn that is a blue/white variegation. Thus the Blueberry name! The Bubble Shell stitch was fairly easy to do, but I had difficulty when it came to the border. I don’t often crochet in the round, but that’s how this border was crocheted. I wasn’t sure that I had worked it correctly because it almost looked like I hadn’t increased enough on the last few rounds as the edge of my border was curling in towards the blanket, instead of laying flat.

You can see the curl really good on the corner.

This morning as I was looking for a different pattern I ran across the original picture that had tempted me to try the pattern. That’s when I noticed this:

Yes, the ridges in the border are much straighter than mine, but that’s not what I want to point out. Look at the corner of the pillow. Can you see how it’s curling in, too? That made me feel a little better. Maybe it wasn’t my crocheting that caused the curl. Perhaps it’s the actual pattern doing it. At least, that’s what I’m going to say.

I still have quite a bit of the yarn left so I’m going to try making some crocheted hats for Dresses for Missions. We’ll see how they turn out!
