Fire Pit Area 7-26-14

Back YardThis is what the eye sore looked like when we first purchased the house. I am talking about the area where the swing set is in this picture.

Backyard 8-18-13We tore the swing set down because we didn’t want it. Even if we have kids, by the time that they are old enough to play on the swing set it would have been in really bad shape.

In the past year I used this area to drop all of the extra stuff that I didn’t know what to do with: dirt, pavers, tiger lilies and irises.

Fire Pit Area 7-26-14It needed a LOT of work!

I knew what I wanted to do: clean it up and put our fire pit area over there. This way we would get the fire pit out of the lawn and it would give me an excuse to use all of the creek rock that I had pulled out of the gardens. The previous owners really loved to use them for outlining their flower beds.

Cleaned Up Fire Pit Area 7-26-14Saturday was the day that I chose to finally tackle this problem area. I spent quite a few hours just trying to weed it, clean it out, and get the dirt spread around in a somewhat even layer.

I didn’t do a good job of making it even, though. To be fair I was tired and had already done a TON of work.

Paved Fire Pit Area 7-26-14Once I had everything kind of even (which really didn’t end up being even at all), Jay and I laid down the concrete pavers for the fire pit to sit on. Then Jay’s mom and I situated the creek rock to make a sort of patio area. Again, it turns out that I didn’t do a good job of making sure that the dirt was even. Oh well.

Paved Fire Pit Area 7-26-14 2And I still have some area that I need to fill in. I think that between the rocks currently being used as my front sidewalk, and the mulch that I have left over from my flower gardens, this will fill in okay.

I don’t know.

What do you think?
