First off, I have to tell you that this was the best Valentine’s Day I’ve ever had. It’s amazing how a really great relationship can make everything that much better. I don’t try to put a lot of emphasis on Valentine’s Day, but since it was the first one for me and Jay I wanted to make it special. Neither of us have a history of great Valentine’s Days.
Since we don’t get to see each other during the week we had discussed it and decided to celebrate the weekend after the 14th. He had to work Friday night, which was depressing since he already works a million hours during the week because of mandatory overtime, but I used the time alone in his place to my advantage. I like trying to surprise him, and sometimes I’m fairly good at it.
I made some sugar cookies for Jay a few weeks ago and told him that he should be nice to his coworkers and take some in for them. I had definitely made plenty. He mentioned that perhaps if he shared his cookies with one of them that this guy’s wife would make a fruit pizza for Jay to share. I’ve never made a fruit pizza in my life and had only had it once, actually, but I thought that I would surprise Jay with one. I used Allrecipes.com to find a recipe and settled on this Fruit Pizza. A fruit pizza is basically a giant sugar cookie that you frost with cream cheese and top with your choice of fruit in a pretty pattern. I chose kiwi, strawberry and pineapple for mine. You are supposed to make a glaze for it, too, but I had forgotten to take my cornstarch with me. Instead of the glaze I just drizzled chocolate syrup over it, which Jay loves.
As the crust was cooling I ran out to my car and grabbed the gift that I had purchased for Jay. Then I sat it on the coffee table, along with a couple other little things, and hoped that he would like everything. The bad thing about Jay working Friday nights is that I don’t sleep well. I try to stay up late so that I will be exhausted and then won’t wake up very often. Why? Because every time I wake up I look at the clock to see what time it is, and then I figure out how many more hours until Jay is home. Yes, it’s a horrible sickness. lol. As I’ve explained to him, it’s worse than trying to get through the hours of Christmas Eve to make it to Christmas morning. Jay gets out of work at 6:30 and is usually home no later than 7. Well, if I wake up around 5:30, then that’s it… I can’t get back to sleep. In fact, I don’t think that there’s ever been a time when he’s returned home from work and I was completely sacked out. Yes, I’m sad. lol
Since I was up he made us coffee and then I insisted that he open his gift. Remember, he works in an iron foundry and had just gotten home from work.
That is his excited, “Look at the airplane!!” look. lol. Yes, I am a horrible enabler and I bought him a new R/C plane for Valentine’s Day. It makes him happy, though, and that’s all that matters to me.
When we had been in a hobby shop he had spotted this and was thinking about buying it. At that point in time I had no thoughts of getting it for him, but I insisted that he didn’t need another plane at that point in time. It wasn’t until a few weeks later that it dawned on me that this would make a great gift for him because I knew that he wanted it. He was very happy.
As for me, he wanted to get me bling, but was unsure what I would like. He didn’t want to get me something that I would hate. I insisted that I wouldn’t hate anything that he had picked out for me, but he wasn’t buying that line because he knows women. lol. Instead we went to the mall where he had to endure me going through the cases of four different jewelry stores. I didn’t even know what to pick! Did I want another pair of earrings? Perhaps a necklace? Maybe a nice gemstone ring? I didn’t want to pick something just to pick it. I was waiting for something to jump out at me. I rarely buy my own jewelry so I don’t often even know what calls to me when I have an entire store to look at.
Then it jumped out at me. I saw it and it was so pretty that I was quite sure it was more than what I wanted him to spend on me, so I didn’t say anything. After the last store, though, nothing else had spoken to me. Jay was still unsure of what my tastes were so I told him that I would show him what I had found. It was the prettiest emerald ring. Wouldn’t you agree?
I apologize for the quality of the picture, but jewelry is so hard to photograph. My bathroom had the best light, so this was done over the sink. Can you see why it called to me?
I was trying to get a better picture of the side detail, but Bob thought that I was doing something in the sink so he got into the shot at the last moment. lol. If you look at the blurry picture to the right you can see a little emerald on the band. There are three diamond chips that run below this little emerald, and then four diamond chips that run between the large emerald on top and the little ones on each side of the ring. So there are a total of 14 diamond chips and three emeralds. It really is gorgeous, and though I didn’t want Jay spending a bunch of money on me, it is gorgeous and I think of him every time I look at it. Isn’t he such a sweetie??
Sorry that you had to listen to me brag on him, yet again. He just makes me so happy that I want to share it with the world. 🙂
