Rule by the Minority

This morning I heard something on the news that disturbed me. Okay, so just about everything I hear on the news lately disturbs me. 😉 Apparently a college in Indiana has BANNED the playing of the National Anthem before all sporting events ( Per the article, the school hasn’t technically played the National Anthem since 1957 but now they have officially banned it due to the fact that “some” at the school were upset by the military and war references. SOME??? Excuse me, but when did we become a nation where minority rules? Oh, that’s right, when we became PC. Ugh. Those two words make me want to puke: Politically Correct.

Political correctness is just the Left’s way of being able to institute their goal of becoming a socialist country. They really don’t care about the ‘little’ people. After all, they are the ones who are keeping the minorities down. If they truly wanted to help people they would bolster their confidence and assure them that they can become anything that they wanted as long as they applied themselves. Instead what do they do? They say, “Oh, you poor minority! You have been squashed beneath the heel of the rich white person so we need to take care of you. No, you don’t have to earn your handouts. Here! Take more!” Why are they doing this? Because they know that if they hand out entitlements then people will become dependent on them, and when you try to take them away the people will be angry. The leftists have ensured their future success by making the ‘poor minorities’ feel like they are their friends and are only there to help. The minorities will therefore continue to vote in the people who are giving them hand outs.

So where does that leave us? And by “Us” I mean the majority of this country who are working hard to make it through life. We do what we have to do to put food on the table and a roof over our heads because we were taught that you reap what you sow. If you want something, then you have to earn it. There are so many anecdotes and stories that support this idea. “Give a man a fish and he eats for a day. Teach a man to fish and he eats for ever.” Okay, that’s not exactly how it goes but you get the picture. The leftists are saying, “Oh no! You can’t fish because that is endangering the rights of the fish to live long and happy lives! Instead we will give you this lovely little bone to chew on. Just don’t touch the fish because they are now on the endangered species list and have been placed under the regulatory control of the Fish and Game department.” What about the grasshopper and the ant that we learned about as children? Remember? The grasshopper spent all summer laying around and playing. I can still hear the song that he was singing (there was a cartoon of this on the Disney Channel when I was younger and that’s what I picture), “Oh, the world owes me a living…” As the grasshopper is singing his little song, the ant is toiling away to store food away for the winter. The ant knows that he has to gather the abundance of food now so that he can survive through the cold and snow. What happens? In the winter the poor grasshopper is wandering around, trying to find a place to stay warm and something to eat. He’s miserable. Life is unfair! Look at that ant! He’s all cozy in his warm home and his table is filled with the bounty of summer. The ant, being the kind hearted conservative that we all are, knows that the grasshopper was a slacker and deserves what he gets, but that’s not the way that we do things. Nope. Instead the ant invites the grasshopper in to share his food, and the next summer the grasshopper is able to store his own food away, too.

An aside… it just came to me that the ant is the Conservative and the grasshopper is the Liberal/Progressive/Socialist/Marxist. The grasshopper is a pretty close relative of the locust. One of the plagues consists of locusts…. it’s a roundabout way of God warning us on the dangers of Liberals. 😉

Back to my original point. Since when is it right to enslave people? That’s what our current administration is doing. When you shackle people with entitlements you are enslaving them. They now depend upon you for their very survival. They have no chance of making it on their own because they’ve been conditioned to depend upon the government. Instead of salivating when a bell is rung, they cry when their government check is threatened to be taken away. Do you really think that their ancestors would be proud? After all, many of the ‘minorities’ first arrived in America to make a better life for themselves than what they had in the old world. The American Dream that brought them to these shores was the knowledge that if they worked hard they could become a success. Many of them changed their names to sound more American. They wanted to be part of this large melting pot and have a chance to live their lives with complete freedom. I think that many of them would bow their heads in shame if they could see what the current generation has done with all of their hard work. They escaped the tyranny of the old world where kings and queens controlled their lives and no matter what they did they barely survived. They came to America where they had a say in what happened. The only limit to their dream was their ambition.

We need to become more like the Greatest Generation. We need to go back to the values and morals that built this country to what it has become in the eyes of other countries. No, I’m not talking about the horrible America that the current administration is constantly apologizing for when talking to foreign dignitaries. I’m talking about the America that makes people risk their lives in pathetic little rafts to get to our shores; the America that causes people to risk their lives crossing our borders (though it doesn’t seem to be as risky anymore…) so that they can have a chance; the America that makes people from all around the world want to come here to live. I recently had a chance to talk to a non-American and he told me that as soon as he could he wanted to move to the US. Legally. I asked him that considering our economic troubles, why would he want to live in America. He turned to me and said, “Because everybody wants to be like the Americans. We all want to be able to live in big houses with the picket fence and drive fancy cars. We want to live like Americans do. You have no idea how lucky you were to be born in the US.” You know what? He’s right.

I am VERY proud to be an American. We need to teach the younger generations to be proud, too. They aren’t being taught that anymore. Do you know that many people have no idea why we just celebrated Memorial Day? To many youngsters July 4th is just a day to attend the parade, have a picnic, and watch the fireworks. We owe the men and women who laid down their lives for us and our country a lot more than parades and fireworks. We owe them our respect and our dying gratitude. I don’t know about you, but whenever I hear the National Anthem, ‘God Bless America’, or even ‘My Country Tis of Thee’ I get goosebumps. When I sing along with our National Anthem I get choked up, but I’m so proud of my country. We have been the beacon of light for people all over. We do so much good in the world for which we are never recognized, and we don’t need to be. We just need to stop apologizing for being horrible. We are NOT horrible. If we were then I would think that you would see a mass exodus. It hasn’t happened yet.

Let me leave you with a few lines from a song that always brings tears to my eyes and goosebumps to my skin. The best version of this song is sung by Lee Greenwood. “God Bless the USA”:

“I’m proud to be an American where at least I know I’m free. And I won’t forget the men who died, who gave that right to me. I’ll proudly stand up, next to you, and defend her still today. Cause there ain’t no doubt, I love this land. God bless the U.S.A.!”
